August Hits and Misses

Hello Makeup Geeks! I have a fun review video for you today. I want to start doing these once a month to showcase hot new products, even if they are just new for me I want to share them with you all. These will be a variety of products that I would recommend you try, and some that you should skip. Hopefully, this will help you in finding new and exciting products to add to your collection. šŸ™‚

So lets get started with this review!

Too Faced Pretty Rebel Palette

I have to admit the packaging on this is what first drew me in. These come with 10 different shades of eyeshadows, 2 matte and the rest are shimmer. My favorites are “Girly” which is a green/blue duochrome color that reminds me of our Utopia pigment. I also love the hot pink shade, “Totally Fetch” and “Badass” a sort of metallic blue. The gold “Instigator” is a favorite as well as it reminds me of our “Liquid Gold” pigment. I love that there is a matte dark brown for darkening the crease of the eye and the nude shade for highlight under the brow. I do wish some of the shades weren’t so bright so it was more versatile. However, the quality of the shadows and the packaging are amazing on this palette! Look for a full review by Leslie on this coming very soon! šŸ™‚

Le Blush CrĆØme De Chanel

As you all know I love my Stila cream blushes but being the true Makeup Geek I am I got bored and decided to try a new one. While at Nordstrom I picked up this Chanel Cream Blush in the shade “Presage” a beautiful coral shade. This color is perfect for medium/dark skin. The quality of these are flawless! These have intense pigmentation and once applied dry down to an almost powder finish. The formula is a sort of satin with non- greasy finish. This almost has a mousse type of feel to it just slightly thicker. The colors are gorgeous and I wish I had picked up more.

Where to Buy: Amazon, eBay, Nordstrom

Price: $38.00

15 Shades of Sephora

To celebrate the 15th anniversary of Sephora different companies came out with products. Bite Cosmetics came out with 15 lipglosses in this set, one for each year Sephora has been open. The packaging on these is great. These are very pigmented and very creamy and glossy as well. The downside is the texture is so incredibly sticky that it literally felt like glue on my lips. I wanted to love these as I love lipglosses and loved the packaging on these too and the size as they are convenient to throw in your purse and take with you on the go. But when I put these on they were so sticky that the tissue was literally sticking to my lips. So I love everything about this except the texture. The price is great for all the shades you get but I will see if I can return this asĀ I can’t get past the texture. I wouldn’t recommend this because of the really bad texture. It’s important to note this was available for a limited time.

Bite Beauty Cashmere Lip Cream

I picked up one of these to try because the one thing I did love about the Bite lip products was the intense pigmentation. I picked up the shade “Moscato” and the texture on this is great. This is exactly how a lip cream should be. This is really like liquid lipstick, it’s thick, smooth and very highly pigmented! I love the lip creams and highly recommend them. The packaging is really good as well as it has a sleek see-through tube that allows you to see the actual color. This also comes with a flat doe-foot wand that is very precise and fool-proof which is great when you don’t have access to a mirror and need a touch-up.

Where to Buy: Amazon, Sephora

Price: $28.00

Murad Renewing Eye Cream

I was in the market for a new eye cream and after reading the reviews on Sephora I picked up this one. I have to tell you this is like silk for the eyes! Yes this is pricey but it is worth it! I wish you could feel it, and you get enough that it should last you for a while as it only takes a little bit each time you use it. It is a mouse like cream that is in no way oily and still extremely moisturizing. It always makes me feel like I just got a facial when I use this. The only downside is the steep price tag that comes along with it which may keep me from buying it again.

Where to Buy: Amazon, eBay, Sephora

Price: $75.00

Murad Eye Cream-1

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick

I picked two shades of their new lipstick to try. I decided on “Venom” which is a bright plum, and “Obsessed” which is a bright baby pink shade. I love these lipsticks! They are very pigmented and go on smooth without being drying. The packaging is sleek, modern and looks amazing as well. Look for a full review on these and the lipliners by Leslie coming soon. šŸ™‚

Dior Airflash Matte Touch

You all know I love the Diorskin Airflash foundation for special occasions or for when I need a touchup in a hurry. This is basically a spray on powder. So once you have applied your foundation you just spray this powder over your skin for a flawless matte finish. This is great because sometimes when I touch-up my face and I am patting on powder with a puff or brush it will mess up my actual makeup. With this you simply spray it on and don’t touch. I really like this and it is such a great idea! The only downside is the price although it is less expensive as the Airflash Foundation. The other thing is that if you use this daily it won’t last a very long time. However, if you use this only for special occasions it would be worth it.

Where to Buy: Amazon, eBay, Sephora

Price: $49.00

DiorSkin Spray Powder 02

So that’s it for my monthly favorites for August. I am going to try my best to do these every month to showcase some new and exciting products that you may have not heard of or have been wondering about. I hope you all are doing great and as always stay happy and healthy!

XOXO,

Marlena

Space NK Goody Bag: The New Season Edit

space nk gift with purchase

It’s the Space NK Gift with PurchaseĀ time again Ā – or, as I like to call it,Ā The Time of Great Temptation. Some very nice things to try in this new season edition, as well as the obligatory Diptyque mini-candle. I’m especially interested in the Algenist serum, as I’ve been really impressed with their cleanser (here) and am keen to try more from the brand; also the Chantecaille mask and the little bottle of treatment from Radical Skincare. Lots to get your teeth into, if you’re something of a beauty fanatic. Here’s a closer look at some of the skincare samples:

For those of you who have wanted to try Sunday Riley’s face-transformingĀ Good GenesĀ but not make the full investment, this is a nice opportunity – and you get 10ml, so a third of a full-sized bottle. (The full size costs Ā£85, more info here.)Ā Good GenesĀ can be used a serum or a mask and there are three other face masks in the goody bag – Caudalie’sĀ Instant Detox, Chantecaille’sĀ Healing MaskĀ and Wei’sĀ Bee Venom.

I’m really into my minis at the moment (even more than usual!) because I’m living from a suitcase and have had to whittle my beauty product stash down to a ridiculous bare minimum. I’m quite enjoying trying lots of new things, though; filling my makeup bag with little travel sizes and working my way through them. One area I’m particularly lacking in is haircare (I misjudged how much I’d need to take with me during my holiday-let-hopping period) and so I’m particularly pleased about these:

I loved theĀ No FrizzĀ stuff from Living Proof so looking forward to having a go with the styling cream and the Phyto shampoo is a welcome surprise. Also – completely unrelated to haircare I know – I do still absolutely adore my mini versions of theĀ Sleep Plus Pillow SprayĀ from This Works – I take them absolutely everywhere with me to create a kind of “home from home” ambience. It’s comforting, calming, and I’ve already popped one in my bag of stuff to take to the birthing centre when the time comes to welcome Baby AMR into the world.

space nk gift with purchase

As usual, the Space NK goody bag is free with any order over Ā£150 – no need for a code, it will automatically be added to your order once you’ve reached the threshold. The goody bagĀ canĀ be shipped internationally (though usually I think that the US is excluded because they have their own separate promotions, let me know if you’re in the states and manage to order one) and it’s available on a first-come-first-served basis, which is why I’ve crept this post in before the big Space NK newsletter goes out! The gift with purchase promotion runs from now until midnight on the 14th (tomorrow night) and it’s limited to one per customer.

Shop at Space NK…

My suggestions for a shopping list if you’re stuck for ideas? Laura Mercier’s amazing Silk Creme Foundation (see full review here), Algenist’sĀ Genius Cleanser, Aurelia’sĀ Dry Body Oil, which is quite possibly the best smelling body oil ever to have been invented, and Diptyque’sĀ Philosykos eau de toilette, a gorgeousĀ figgy scent to take you through the summer. The more electronically-minded people who are looking to tech-up their home facial routine can find the various versions of the Clarisonic at Space NK (I love the new limited edition summer colours) and if you were looking for some seriously swish home fragrancing, then Diptyque’sĀ gargantuan version of theĀ FiguierĀ candle is a bit of a showstopper.

The Real Unsung Hero of The Charlotte Tilbury Range

Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow Review

Everyone and their Mother raves about the Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks, eyeshadow palettes and of course the skincare but I never see nearly enough love for the real star of the show – Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow. It is a fusion of primer and illuminator that will leave you wondering how you ever survived without it for so long. Really how did you manage?

Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow Review

We all know the drill in regards to primer: you apply it underneath foundation and/or general make-up to intensify and prolong, and if you are lucky it will boast a few skincare benefits too. To find something that brightens, hydrates, prolongs, perfects and has a handful of anti-ageing ingredients to boot (BioNymph Peptide Complex to stimulates collagen), is all but unheard of, and yet that is exactly what Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow offers and more.

Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow Review

For every product that I can visually display it’s sheer brilliance – magic if you will – there’s the odd launch or two that no photograph or paragraph can document with justice and Wonderglow is one of those. To the naked eye, Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow is a fairly loose, liquid illuminator that is a neutral gold in tone – heck you might even be put off on that alone as not everyone likes an all over glow but I can promise you it is worth the risk. The light reflecting pearls present in Wonderglow – even when applied under make-up as a primer – create a soft, lit-from-within glow that is youthful, forgiving (even on fine lines and enlarged pores) and brightening. For a moment let’s forget the additional benefits and focus on that glow, one quick application of this liquid gold primer, quickly and effectively disguises any signs of tired, sallow and dull skin. You can also apply it as a stand alone liquid highlighter, or mix into any other liquid face product, such as foundation to add additional radiance, or to create a dewy finish.

Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow Review

How ever you decide to use it, I’m sure you will come to agree that Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow is a non-greasy, lighter-than-air brightening choice. What is slightly odd about this product is that it contains soft focus, ceramic microspheres to smooth over the skin’s imperfections and blur as it goes. I’ve never experienced anything like it – a radiance boosting product that also helps to visually soften the appearance of my pores. One word – magical.

Promise me that this will be the next Charlotte Tilbury product you in the very least swatch in store?
