Spring Skincare Routine: Refresh!

It’s spring—YAY! We can finally break out our sandals & light sweaters. Bye, winter coats! While we’re doing a little spring cleaning in our closet, it’s also super important to give your skincare routine a spring refresh. As beauty lovers, we all know that the skin is the most important ingredient to a flawless face. That being said, it’s über important to make sure you take care of your skin—morning & night!

Here are some very important steps to prepping for the summer months ahead:

Wash Your Makeup Brushes

We’re just as guilty as the next makeup junkie, but this really is a key step. Your brushes create a lot of bacteria over time, so washing them every 3 months is important. Think about it—other than your fingers, your makeup brushes are touching your face more than anything else (hopefully) during your day. Scrub-a-dub-dub!

We recommend exfoliating the skin at least once per week, sometimes more (or less) depending on your skin type. Your skin creates natural oils to protect your pores, however you want to make sure you’re giving it a clean sweep at least once a week. Our refined finish facial polish creates the smoothest surface, while gently exfoliating and purifying the skin to reveal your skin’s natural radiance.

Tone Up!

Another vital piece of our skincare regimen is prepping the skin before moisturizing day & night. Best way to do this? Apply our moisture prep toning lotion all over your face and neck. Its specialized formula contains vitamin E acetate, natural oat & meadowsweet, as well as botanical extracts known to purify & smooth the skin and help reduce fine lines. And, let’s be real here, there’s no better way to start or end the day than with smooth skin!

Lock In That Moisture

We don’t want to sound like a broken record, but moisturizing your skin really is the most important step. Moisturizing provides your skin with immediate & long-term hydration. When using total moisture, our hydra-concentrated facial cream with tri-radiance complex, you’re instantly helping your skin develop reserves of water & reinforce its moisture barrier.

Protect, protect, protect. Okay, okay. Every step in this skincare routine refresh seems to be the most important step, but seriously. Don’t leave the house without sunscreen, ever. Dream team? More like dream screen. What a perfect time to introduce our NEW, invisible silky-matte broad spectrum SPF 45 sunscreen for your face! Pair this with big easy, our bigger than BB, multi-balancing complexion perfector, which also has SPF 35.

Practice these steps every day, and you’ll be walking out of the house like “I woke up like dis,” obviously.

NARS Dual Intensity Eye Shadows

NARS Dual Intensity Shadows

NARS Dual Intensity Shadows

I love the look of the new (yet to launch) NARS Dual Intensity Eye Shadows – they look like something quite different for NARS. According to (image source, subscription needed) the formula is a first-to-market in terms of wet or dry shadows. However, since NARS shadows can already be used wet or dry, the newness on these is a specially designed brush (the main point of difference on the wet and dry claim) that allows for colour to be applied as a wash or with precision.

In terms of colour, the collection has celestial names; Andromeda and Desdemona for example, and from the looks of them they’re all a shimmery, earthy tones – I don’t have a great deal of information about them, but watch this space. They’re a July launch for the UK. It’s Night Series Eye Liners and the Philip Lim Nail collaboration I’m really waiting for though!

What to Wear This Spring…

spring lookbook video

Ah, ’tis finally here: the Spring Lookbook. I’ve collected together some of my favourite outfits and put them on video. It’s a bit like a moving photoshoot and I really hope that you like it – it took me a whole day to film it and another entire day to edit! If you can bring it upon yourself to give it a “thumbs up” or tweet it or share it or whatever it is that floats your boat, then please do. If this one goes down well then I’ll do a Lookbook video every season and perhaps some extra little trend features in between.

Now I’ve been sneaking little fashion teasers onto the website since last week so you’ll have had a preview of some of the outfits already – others will be a big and glorious surprise! Let me know which your favourite is in the comments; my personal favourite is Look 1 with the sport-luxe trousers and the gorgeous cashmere cardigan (above), but closely followed by the outfit with the teal-coloured shirt from Hush and the floral print skirt (below).

I’m getting really into clashing patterns and wearing a bit of colour – an attempt, I suppose, at dragging myself from the “black and grey and neutrals” rut. Not that there’s anything wrong with black or grey or neutrals, it’s just that I can be an incredibly lazy dresser and it’s quite refreshing to be doing a bit of fashion experimentation.

what to wear this spring blog

A couple of things to note: the amazing French 65 court shoes from Whistles (featured in “Look 2″ above) are actually on sale at the moment, reduced from £135 to £94.50. They are incredibly chic and actually quite alright to walk in – not as comfy as the black and white “Jennie” shoes from L.K. Bennett, but getting there. Find them in the sale here. The other thing is an apology; there are a few bits and bobs that are no longer available online. It took me so long to collect my clothes together and then film and edit the video that the fashion world moved on without me! Things went into the sale and then promptly sold out. So the lovely duck-egg blue Topshop jumper (below) is nowhere to be seen (unless you find it in-store, which is a possibility so do check!) and also the silky Topshop Unique printed shorts seem to have disappeared from the face of the earth. Which is perhaps a blessing, in a way, because they weren’t the easiest little blighters to wear.

Right. Are you sitting comfortably? Grab a cup of tea or whatever it is that you like to have handy and we shall begin! If you can’t see the video player at the bottom of this page then please click here to view the Lookbook in a new window.

Barry M Make Up Brushes

Barry M Brushes

Barry M Brushes

There are SO many new brush launches at the moment that it’s hard to keep up. But Barry M Make Up Brushes are an amazing price point and the quality is great. It’s very hard to say when you’ve only just started using something what the longevity is like – time will tell whether they last as long as higher priced brushes. Barry M Make Up Brushes start at £2.99 for shadow and liner brushes (above) and the kabuki, which is very fluffy and soft is the most expensive at £7.99. Everyone should have a kabuki – it changes everything!

Barry M Mini Brushes

Barry M Mini Brushes

There’s also a mini kit containing three brushes and a brow/lash grooming brush for £9.99 which is pretty good value. If I have one criticism, it’s that the bigger brush fibres are a little loose and wayward so if you like a snug brush they might not be quite tight enough. Otherwise, at the price, I can’t really find anything wrong! Barry M Make Up Brushes will launch into Superdrug (and on the BM website) – they’re not quite there yet but do keep an eye out – it’s soon!

We’re doing really well at the moment on budget beauty that’s equal to pricey rivals… maybe cheap is the new luxury?
