The Best Drugstore Makeup Ever!

No one wants to spend a ton of money on makeup if there’s less expensive options out there.   So…. I’ve gone through a massive, heaping pile of drugstore makeup to pick out the best products of all time.  Now you can save some money and buy some extra shoes :)

Revlon Colorstay Foundation
This full coverage foundation gives an amazing finish to the skin.  The matte formula is great for oily skin, but work quickly in applying as it dries fast.  The best part of this foundation is there’s tons of shades to choose from!

Price: $9.98
Where to Buy:   Most Drugstores  (Amazon) (eBay)

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Foundation
For a dewy finish to the skin, this Neutrogena foundation works amazing!  It covers really well while still looking fresh and doesn’t cake up like some foundations do.  The only downside is the limited range of colors.

Price: $11.37
Where to Buy:   Most Drugstores (Amazon) (eBay)

Maybelline Fit Concealer
I have been using this concealer for months now and absolutely love it!  I apply it under my eyes to hide my dark circles- it doesn’t cake up, but still covers really well.  Here’s my full review on it:  The Best Drugstore Concealer Ever

Price: $4.99
Where to Buy:   Most Drugstores  (Amazon) (eBay)

Milani Minerals Blush
If you’re looking for a cheaper alternative to the NARS blushes, these Milani ones are almost identical but less than 1/3 the price!  The color “Luminous” is a beautiful shimmery peachy pink color that adds a nice glow to the cheeks.

Price: $8.99
Where to Buy:   Most Drugstores  (Amazon) (eBay)

NYX Powder Blush
I’ve been using NYX blushes for years as they’re the best inexpensive ones I’ve found.  The color “Peach” looks great on everyone, and the matte finish adds color to the cheeks without the extra shimmer.

Price: $6.99
Where to Buy:   (Makeup Geek Store)

NYX Rouge Cream Blush
If you want dewy cheeks, using cream blushes adds the perfect shine without looking oily.  Not many drugstore makeup companies make cream blushes, but these NYX ones are really great quality!

Price: $6.50
Where to Buy:   (Makeup Geek Store)  (Amazon) (eBay)

Maybelline Gel Liner

These amazing gel liners are great quality and glide on smoothly and evenly. The are water resistant and have great color payoff and don’t flake or smudge. They work great in the waterline as well. They are very high quality at a very low price! See my Smackdown between the Bobbi Brown and the Maybelline Gel Liner here.

  • Price: $9.00
  • Where to Buy: (Amazon) (eBay)

Rimmel London Eyebrow Pencil

This eyebrow pencil is great for filling in and enhancing your brows. It glides on smoothly and blends effortlessly to keep your brows looking great all day.

  • Price: $10.00
  • Where to Buy: (Amazon) (eBay)

Maybelline Color Tattoo Cream Eyeshadow

The color Tattoo’s have changed the way many people view cream eyeshadows. These are very reminiscent of MAC’s paint pots. They don’t feel sticky, apply easily and come in a variety of highly pigmented shades. See my full review for the Maybelline Color Tattoos here:

  • Price: $6.99
  • Where to Buy: (Amazon) (eBay)

These highly pigmented liners glide on smoothly and evenly for a great finish that last all day. They are a great inexpensive alternative to the Urban Decay 24/7 liners.

  • Price: $3.99

Loreal Voluminous Mascara

This mascara is very highly pigmented and makes your lashes look thicker and fuller while adding length as well. The wand is the ideal size for reaching all your lashes, especially the shorter ones in the inner corner.

  • Price: $5.84
  • Where to Buy:  (Amazon) (eBay)

Ardell Invisiband False Lashes

Quite possibly the best false lashes on the market, these are lightweight and easy to apply and come in a huge variety of styles and shapes. The Invisiband gives a especially natural look to the eyes.

  • Price: $3.99
  • Where to Buy: (Makeup Geek Store)

Revlon Just Bitten Lipstain

These are by far the best lipstains you can find at the drugstore today. The only downside is they can be quite drying even with the lip balm provided. They are highly pigmented and come in a good variety of shades to choose from. See a full review of these Lipstains here:

  • Price: $7.43
  • Where to Buy: (Amazon) (eBay)

  • Price: $5.59
  • Where to Buy: (Makeup Geek Store)

Palladio Herbal Tinted Lip Balm

These slightly tinted lip balms are ideal for a no makeup kind of day or when your lips just need hydration. This is moisturizing enough to be considered a true balm and give a great tint to the lips. They wear a long time and leave a slight stain to the lips.

  • Price : $3.89
  • Where to Buy:  (Makeup Geek Store)

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick

Revlon has some of the best lipsticks on the market. These are highly pigmented and glide on with ease. They are creamy and smooth and feel great on the lips. These have several matte shades that won’t leave your lips feeling dried out.

September & October Hot New Products

Hello my wonderful Makeup Geeks! Today I have my October favorites for you. I know I missed September, but I did film it. Unfortunately, it was on a day when I was not feeling well so I scratched that one because my energy that day was very low. From here on out, I am going to be more consistent ! So, let’s get started on my October favorites!

NARS Guy Bourdin Holiday Collection Limited Edition One Night Stand Cheek Palette (That’s a mouthful)

This contains 4 blushes, a contour or bronzing powder, and a highlighting powder. Each one is 0.14 ounces and retails for $65.00. Buying each item separately, this would total to be $145.00, so this is a great value. NARS has great blushes, but unfortunately I can’t wear them any longer due to my sensitive skin. These are very high quality, highly pigmented, very smooth and creamy. The only downside that I see is that the contour shade is only going to work for fair to medium skin. Any darker of a skin tone,  it basically works as a highlighter.

Oct Hot New Products 02

The colors in the palette are:

  • Laguna – Brown with a golden shimmer
  • Deep Throat – Sheer peach
  • Orgasm – Peachy/Pink with a slight golden shimmer
  • Mistinguette – Bright pink
  • Goulue – Medium pink
  • Devotee – Highlighter

Price: $65.00 Where to Buy: (Sephora) (eBay)

NARS Guy Bourdin Fling Lip Kit

I love the packaging on this. It comes in a cute set of bright red lips. How great is that? This palette contains 2 lipsticks, a mini matte lip pencil and a mini velvet gloss lip pencil. I love both their lipsticks and pencils. Normally, a NARS lipstick retails for $26.00. This set is cheaper than purchasing two lipstick individually, and you get 2 lip pencils as well. For the packaging and the price this is a great value. Shades Include:

  • Lipstick in Roman Holiday – Sheer Pastel Pink
  • Lipstick in Damage – Muted Purple
  • Mini Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dolce Vita – Rose
  • Mini Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil in Baroque – Raspberry

01_NARS Lipstick Case_Lipstick Swatches02_NARS Lipstick Case_Lip Pencil Swatches

Price: $49.00 Where to Buy: (Nordstrom)

I love this idea. There are 3 different “pouches” each one with a different type of makeup inside. Once again, the packaging and idea behind these are wonderful and the products inside are just as great. NARS Promiscuous Lip Pencil Set A black pouch embellished with a set of blue lips. This set includes 5 samples of NARS favorite existing shades.

NARS Splendor in the Grass Check Palette

This is a smaller and less expensive version of the other cheek palette. It contains 4 blushes and a highlighter. I prefer this palette more than I do the previous one. This palette has typical NARS packaging and is very sturdy. The blushes, like all of NARS blushes, are very creamy and smooth.

The colors contained in this palette are:

  • Albatross – Luminous Glow (Highlighter)
  • Dolce Vita – Dusty Rose
  • Sex Appeal – Soft Peach

Marc Jacobs Lust for Lacquer Lip Vinyl

I purchased 3 of the lip glosses from the Marc Jacobs line. I love the packaging on these and the smooth round design. It gives it a very sleek and elegant look. The wand that comes with the lipgloss is a flat doe foot, which is by far my favorite. These make it easy to swipe on color on the go, without the mess and hassle that brushes and standard wands make. There are 12 in the collection, 6 of which are on the Sephora site. The price is a bit steap for these lip glosses.

Maybelline Color Sensation High Shine Lipgloss

These may not be brand new, but they are new to me and that still counts. 🙂 I absolutely love everything about these glosses. The packaging is very sleek and classic. The container is clear so you can see the color of the lip gloss. These lip glosses have the flat doe foot wand I love for applying on the go. These are very highly pigmented and are glossy without being sticky.( We all know I hate a sticky lip gloss. 🙂 ) And for the price you just can’t go wrong with these. There is a wide selection of shades to chose from. I bought “Raspberry Ablaze” which was a limited edition, but I will list the other shades for you as well.

MAC Divine Night

As always with MAC products, the packaging is wonderful. These eye shadows are good quality and apply smoothly. The eye shadow that stuck out to me was “Exquisite Ego”. Personally, I am not a fan of having 2 shades in one eye shadow, unless they work together and can be mixed.

Oct Hot New Products 01

If you like MAC “Cremesheen” Lipstick, you will love these. I was not a fan of “Private Party”, because of the small particles of glitter. Other than that, these are great glosses. Shades Include:

  • Flair for Finery – Nude – (eBay) (Amazon) (MAC)

Too Faced: “Joy to the Girls” Palette Review

Hi Makeup Geeks! As you all know, every year around the holidays I go on my search for the best makeup palettes. I review each of them individually, then at the end I pick my favorite one of the year. It’s a tough job but someone has to do it… 🙂

Today’s review is going to be for the Too Faced “Joy to the Girls”

Too Faced Palette 02

The packaging on this is a sturdy cardboard construction with a very sleek design in teal and gold. It opens like a book and reveals 15 eyeshadows at 0.06 ounces each which is more than their typical average eyeshadows. The palette also contains a full size LashGasm mascara which normally retails for $21.00.

Too Faced Palette 04

I hate to say it, but I’m not a huge fan of this mascara…  The wand is a plastic wand with a mixture of both small and longer bristles which are suppose to be able to coat all your lashes. The formula itself is good although a little flaky but for me the wand of this makes this one I wouldn’t repurchase.

Stila Magnificent Metals Foil Finish Eye Shadow Review

Hi Makeup Geeks!

I hope your week has been great and that you are ready for Fall! I had some of you request to review the new Stila Foil Finish Eyeshadows as they’re a pretty unique product and are super intense!  So here’s my thoughts on them and some pictures.  Have a great weekend!

Stila Pigments 04

The Stats:

  • A highly pigmented metallic cream shadow
  • Comes in 12 different colors
  • Size is .07 ounce and includes a mixing tray and mini liquid primer
  • Can be applied with your fingers alone, or mixed with primer for a more intense finish
  • Appears like a foil finish to the eyes

Stila Pigments 06

  • Intensely pigmented and super creamy
  • Gives a beautiful foil finish to the eyes
  • Unique product
  • Comes in many different colors

Stila Pigments 02

  • The price ($32- ouch!)
  • Extremely messy to work with
  • Not practical for every day use as the colors are intense PLUS the texture is super metallic.  One or the other would have been best
  • Leaves behind a glitter, and is difficult to remove from the skin.  Leaves a stain with some of the colors

Stila Pigments 08

Price:   $32 for .07 ounce

Where to Buy:    Sephora  .  Amazon

Stila Pigments_Swacthes

In general, I feel like I would pass on these even though they are such a unique product!  If you’re a hard core makeup geek, then buy 1 or 2 just to experiment with them.  But I feel like these will sit in my drawer unused as they are too difficult to work with and hard to remove from the skin, plus the price is a bit much for just one eyeshadow.

That’s my opinion anyways 😉

What’s your thoughts?  Take it or leave it???

See you on next post

NARS Fall 2013 Collection Review & Swatches

Howdy Makeup Geeks! It’s almost my favorite time of the year…fall. I love everything about it, warm days, followed by cool nights, football season, and the amazing scents of pumpkin spice. Mostly, I am  inspired by the vivid shades we have here in the South. The sugar maples are in full effect with vivid hues of crimson, gold, yellow, green and orange, and the mountains light up with color that leaves you spellbound.

Keeping the upcoming fall in mind, I recently received the NARS Fall 2013 lineup. Needless to say I was very excited to  review these. Apart from playing around with them at my local Sephora, this was my first real experience with the brand. I spent quite a bit of time using and testing these products so I could pass along a fair and honest review. I would never suggest you buy something  I wouldn’t spend my own money on.

So let’s get on to the review. 🙂

All products are from the fall 2013 Collection and can be found at NARS and Nordstrom.

  • Kamchatka – A matte navy smoke with the tiniest amount of purple. The pigmentation was not bad, but the eyeshadow was quite powdery and didn’t last long on my lid, even over a base.
  • Namibia – A“grey moon”, or matte grey shade. This eyeshadow  had decent color payoff but definitely not worth the steep price tag. I felt as though this product was very chalky even though it blended okay. As with the others, the color didn’t last long and seemed to fade after only a few hours.
  • Yamal – A “maple sugar” tone, or a medium matte brown with warm undertones. This eyeshadow applied much easier than the others and wasn’t quite as chalky.
  • Bavaria – A“deep sea blue”, this color is a teal shade with a slight gold sheen. As far as the colors this was my favorite,  however  it was very sheer and the color had to be built up to be noticeable. The  downside of this eyeshadow is that it didn’t blend as well as Namibia and Yamal.

Of the four shades in the fall collection, three are matte and one has a slight shimmer. I was pleasantly surprised to see more mattes than shimmers in this collection. The eyeshadow compacts each contain 0.07 ounce of product and retail for $24.00. This is a steep price for a single eyeshadow so I was expecting amazing texture, finish, and pigmentation. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case with these. I was incredibly disappointed in both the swatches, how they applied, and how they lasted throughout the day. The texture is  quite powdery and  overall very sheer. It’s very hard to get the color to  build up enough to give you a  rich color payoff. After wearing the color for only a few hours I noticed considerable creasing and fading. These are most definitely not worth the price. Personally, I would not recommend these eyeshadows.

  • Las Ramblas –A “yellow gold”. This eyeliner seems to be more yellow than  gold, with a slight sheen to it as well. This didn’t apply as smoothly and evenly as some of my other liners. The pigmentation was not as intense as I would have liked, although it could be built up. I used this liner in my waterline and had a difficult time making it noticeable.
  • Via de Martelli –A “chocolate” tone. It is a warm toned medium chocolate with slight red undertone. This eyeliner was much creamier than Las Ramblas and can be layered very easily. From my experience the average wear time without fading was about six hours.

These eye liners retail for $24.00 for 0.02 ounces of product. Again, for the price tag I was expecting a very creamy liners and intense pigmentation, much to my disappointment. Of the two eyeliners from the fall collection, I would suggest the Via de Martelli, however I wouldn’t trade them over Milani or Urban Decay.

  • La Paz – An“orchid” shade with a slight purple sparkle in it. The pigmentation was good but  felt extremely drying not long after I applied it. When I pressed my lips together, I could feel the small glitter particles, and after eating I had noticeable sparkle around my lips. The wear was great on this lipstick as it lasted well over five hours.
  • Peloponnese –A “ginger pink”, soft peach with a gold shimmer. I couldn’t feel the gold sparkle in this shade which made it much more comfortable on my lips. This lipstick wasn’t as drying, although it was still dry. The color payoff was better on this lipstick, however it didn’t last as long as La Paz with the wear time lasting just over three hours.

These pure matte lipsticks retail for $26.00 for 0.07 ounces of product and are the only 2 shades in the fall collection. I was quite pleased with both of these. Of all the products in the fall 2013 NARS collection, my recommendation would be the matte lipsticks, especially La Paz. The only downside was the fact that they can feel rather drying on the lips and I had to be mindful of the silver glitter, however this could be avoided by using a lip balm before applying them.

  • Paimpol –A “pink chiffon” shade. This lip pencil is a cool toned light pink which has a frosted look when applied on the lips. This lip pencil was very sheer and because it was not opaque it didnt appeal to me. Even though the color applied very smoothly, it seemed to give me a  washed out or sickly look to my face and left my lips very dry.
  • Mysterious Red – A “crimson red” with a warm tone. This lip pencil applied evenly and smoothly without drying. The pigmentation is good and it wore for well over five hours.

The downside of these products is yet again, the price. These lip pencils  retail for $25.00 for 0.086 ounces of product. In my opinion the Mysterious Red lip pencil is the better out of the two. However,  I would personally skip these all together. Another downside of these lip pencils was the packaging, the cap was very loose and had a tendency to fall off.

  • Fury – A “regal purple” or a deep, rich purple. This nail polish applied great and only took two coats for a full opaque finish. The dry time was quick and it lasted almost a week with very little chipping.
  • Galathee –A “dove grey” or a light to medium grey color. This shade was just a tad thicker than Fury and took three coats  to get the desired finish on my nails. For me, That’s not a deal breaker, as I find that’s the case with a lot of polishes. This polish also wore great with it lasting just a day short of a week.

These polishes sell for $19.00 for 0.50 ounces of product. Personally, I would choose Essie nail polish over these, and at much cheaper price you can certainly get more shades. (* It is important to note I wore both of these polishes with a top coat over them)

Overall, as much as I wanted to be floored by the products in NARS fall lineup, I just wasn’t. The products I liked have much cheaper alternatives that are just of quality,  if not better. For the price tag that accompanies these items I expect to be blown away, but I was very disappointed.

I wish this review could have been more positive and I look forward to bringing you more reviews in the near future of things that you can be excited to pick up for yourself. Until then, I hope wherever you are you are blessed and happy!
