Space NK are killing it this year with their goody bags and shopping offers; the latest one has a pricey minimum spend threshold at £200 but is well worth it in terms of what you get in return. For a start, eligible customers receive a £50 gift voucher to spend instore and online (so you could look at it as a 25% discount, in a perverse way) and then there’s a bag filled with Space NK’s bestsellers and favourites, nearly all of them full size. I’ll run through the contents below, but know that if you want to shop instore at the #wishuponastar event then you’ll need to book a ticket which is £15 redeemable against purchases; if you want to shop online it’s free (obviously!) but there are a limited number of bags.

Inside the Wish Upon a Star gift, as well as the hot pink £50 gift card, there’s a full size Erborian BB Creme (£35), Space NK Daily Fix foot cream (£15), Sei Seaweed Bath Soak (£32), Rodial Lip Balm (£12), Living Proof Style Extender (£18), Lipstick Queen Liquid Lips (£22), REN Emollient Rescue Cream (£19), Kevyn Aucoin eye pencil (£21), and a little box of bestselling Aromatherapy Associates bath oils worth £26. There’s also a little Cowshed hand cream worth £8, a mini 30ml pot of Eve Lom cleanser worth around £15-£20 (depending on which larger size you base the price-per-ml on!) and a small, but not miniature-sized, Diptyque candle worth £20. I make the total worth of the products in this goody bag to be around £240, and then there’s the £50 gift card, of course, taking the overall value up to nearly £300.

A very tempting offer if you’re thinking of getting your Christmas shopping done – something for them and then LOTS of stuff for you! I didn’t just miss the bus with Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal but several busses after that too. Yes I am late to the party but the main thing is, I’m here now and came bearing gifts – well the gift of review. I’ve mentioned it before, that in my eyes Becca Moonstone Shimmering Skin Perfector is just that perfection, and as such I’ve never really felt the need to branch out into new shades. Sure there was my misguided dabble with Champagne Pop – a beautiful shade on everyone apart from me so it seems – but other than that I have remained faithful to the almost silver glint of Moonstone. Well all of that has changed. I have seen the light and it is Becca Opal tinted.

It’s been some time since I’ve sat down and offered up a stand alone make-up review so excuse me if I am a tad rusty. I’ll keep any notes on packaging, short and sweet: the compact itself if approximately palm sized, has rubberised packaging (a little like NARS) and inside it features a large mirror. I don’t particularly find the packaging design to be pretty but it isn’t exactly offensive either; the one thing I will point out is that it doesn’t do a great job of protecting the physical highlighting powder – I kid you not, Instagram is awash with shattered pans of Opal, Moonstone and all the other available shades. This is one of those products that you will want to treat with kiddie gloves whilst in use – one accidental drop and it is curtains for your Becca powder.

I can’t recall who first drew my attention to Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal but I can wax lyrical as to when and why, I caved and made a pan my own. It was in Sephora, I swiped it onto the back of my hand out of curiosity and my knees all but went weak. Right there and then, I knew I had to make the almost-bronze tinged highlighter my own.

My guess – and it is just that as I haven’t conducted any research – is that Becca Opal is in someway influenced by the gem stone of the same name? If so, it would explain the multifaceted effect this highlighter achieves; in some lights it gleams golden, others silver/lilac and in some instances, it is almost salmon pink. In my opinion, Becca Opal is fairly neutral toned and an almost golden colour (at least in the pan), however a lot of its final appearance is dependant on your own complexion. I personally find I reach for this more when I’m tanned, opposed to when I am ghostly pale in the Winter. There is no doubt that this is an entirely universal shade but you may find that the deeper your skin tone is, the more stark Opal translates.

The real question is why should you had over £32 (yep really) for another highlighter (because I know you have more than one)? Real talk, it is truly special: from the difficult to dupe shade, all the way down to the finely milled texture that is a dream to apply. If like myself you have enlarged pores and have to be discerning with your highlighter choices, this is one you can apply free from worry – the same rule applies with fine lines. The texture is soft, forgiving and a dream to blend – I recommend teaming it with a fan brush for optimum results. Becca Opal is what I’d deem to be a fairly bold highlighting choice in that it is noticeable on the skin, and yet it manages to be striking without a hint of glitter or shimmer particles. I liken the end effect to molten metal or foil, frankly words nor images will do this justice until you are able to try it out for yourself.

Believe the hype and then treat yourself.

Last week I created my three favourite makeup looks for new online beauty community and makeup store, The Beautyst*. I had instant love for The Beautyst because they stock By Terry; anyone who appreciates a bit of By Terry maquillage is alright in my book! The Beautyst have just launched in the UK (you can browse their website here) and to celebrate their launch, they are running a contest on Fashiolista – all you have to do is click the link, pick your favourite look and you’ll be in with the chance of winning a complete makeup kit from The Beautyst.

I went for a red lip look first of all, using the absolute juciest red – Bang Bang from By Terry. It’s one of the Hyaluronic Sheer Rouge formulas, so it really plumps and smoothes out your lips and gives a shine without any gloss stickiness. It’s such a modern texture – very hydrating and light. I lined my lips first with a lipliner from Lipstick Queen, just to stop any colour from bleeding and to make sure that I got a crisp, neat outline to fill in. A touch of coppery NYX bronzer completed the look – I didn’t want too-pale skin with this, it needed to have a bit of life! The second look was a bronzey beach babe kind of affair; I went to town with loads of matte bronzer (in medium) from NYX over a BB cream from REN. Just very outdoorsy and natural, with a touch of blusher on my cheeks and RMS Lipshine on my lips to give the slightest flush of pink. The blush I used was from The Balm, a cosmetics company that I don’t tend to really see mentioned that much. But they make brilliant products, including what I think is one of the very best cream illuminators you can buy – the Mary-Lou Manizer.

Look three went a bit smudgey and messy, but I do love a dirty smokey eye! For this one I just piled on an absolute load of black kohl and shadow, both from NYX, and I used some brown shadows, too, from the Love in Paris palette, just to contour my eyelids and add a bit of interest. Foundation was By Terry Densiliss and again, there was a slightest tickle of bronzer on my cheeks just to get a bit of colour back into them. In all honestly, when I use Densiliss I never feel as though I need anything else on my skin, but it wouldn’t have been much of a makeup look if I didn’t make use of a few different products!
