Palpitations: The Liberty Beauty Advent Calendar

liberty beauty advent calendar 2016

I promised myself that I wouldn’t write about any more beauty advent calendars – I could keep going for weeks, and by that time they will have all sold out and I’ll have calendar fatigue and I won’t have had time to write about anything like skincare or foundation or avocados (don’t ask, see Sunday) and all of the washing will be piled up in the linen cupboard and I won’t have had a shower…

But then this arrived from Liberty and I almost burst a blood vessel with excitement: the 2016 Beauty Advent Calendar featuring Liberty print drawers. Liberty print drawers!

Have you ever seen anything so delicious? Twenty-five Liberty print drawers, adorned with coppery numbers, each filled with a beauty gift hiding in its own little nest of shredded paper.

I really don’t want to do too many spoilers on this one, because it’s so utterly delectable, but I’ve photographed two of the products just to give you an idea of the treats you’d have in store if a Liberty calendar was on its way to you… There’s a great mix of niche brands and better-known ones – Diptyque and Eve Lom, for example – but I can honestly say that there isn’t a single disappointment.

You can see a full list of the contents here…

liberty beauty advent calendar 2016Apparently the equivalent product value is over £500 – these valuations always seems unlikely when there are a lot of minis included, but the minis tend to be incredibly expensive serums and face creams and they always seems to bump the value up somewhat. 30ml of an ESPA face product, for example, is about twenty quid’s worth. The 20ml Dr Sebagh Serum Repair is actually a full size version worth £69. So it all adds up!

Whoever designed this calendar deserves some sort of medal for services to the beauty world. I’m just in awe. It’s a shame it’s cardboard and not wood (though wood would be ridiculously heavy, I admit!) because I would absolutely one hundred percent hang this on my bathroom wall and use it as a beauty cabinet. Imagine! Lipsticks, hair grips, all of those sharpeners and mini tweezers and nail scissors that you can never find!

You can buy the Liberty Advent Calendar online here – it’s £165. I think it may only be available to ship to UK customers, but things could have changed… At any rate, take a look at the contents list before you buy if you’re in any doubt as to whether it’ll be up your street!

Why It’s Time You Finally Tried Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm

Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm 10th Anniversary Edition

A beauty classic revisited and for good reason too; the iconic Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm has been filling the shelves of skincare experts, enthusiasts and the curious for ten whole years, and shows no sign of slowing down. The suit-all and do-all cleanser has been suitably gussied up to mark the milestone birthday and there has never been a better time to finally test the formulation for yourself, or of course replenish your bathroom cabinet.

Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm 10th Anniversary Edition

The Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm 10th Anniversary Edition is easily one of the best cleansers of its kind and of the few, that I all but force upon anyone who will listen to me harp on about its magnificence. I’ve reviewed this easy to use balm, way back when I had no real clue how to describe what it truly did – and tragically more than likely described it as “melty”. Now that we have collectively cringed and moved on, let me share a few, more cohesive thoughts on why now is the time to treat yourself to the bumper sized, Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm.

Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm 10th Anniversary Edition

Double cleansing is a great habit to get into and has dramatically improved my complexion over the years but sometimes all I want (or have the time to do) is quickly wash my face. Due to fear of ageing like an old leather sofa, I have bullied myself into religiously applying SPF daily which as you may be aware isn’t the easiest thing to remove from the skin. After several years of use, I can personally vouch that there is next to nothing that the Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm can not gently shift in one use.

As far as balm textures go, the Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm has to be one of the softest and I won’t pretend that it hasn’t somewhat melted in certain climates; if travelling, or even living in a warm environment, you may find the best place to store this cleanser is in the fridge. The benefit of such consistency is that it is always ready to go – there’s no need to chip away at it, nor spend what feels like an eternity warming the balm into a usable medium. Simply dispense a small coin blob into your hands (it comes complete with a dinky, re-usable spatula for this purpose), gently massage onto the face, watch (in awe or not, the choice is yours) it quickly transform from a solid into an oil, add water so it emulsifies into a milk and then remove using a muslin cloth. It really couldn’t be easier and as mentioned above it tackles just about all forms of cosmetics from sunscreen and even the most stubborn waterproof mascara.

One of the biggest concerns for most when switching to a balm cleanser is the concern that it may be greasy? In my opinion despite the transforming qualities of the Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm from a semi-solid to an oil, there is no concern of it clogging the pores nor an overwhelmingly thick, uncomfortable texture – rather I find the entire process both effortless and dare I say relaxing.

Now for a quick break down of the ingredients: if you have dry, dehydrated, easily sensitised skin or all of the above, then you may rejoice as this cleanser is free from alcohol, parabens, silicone’s, synthetic fragrance and colour, mineral oil and petrolatum. Rather this is a concoction of Moringa Seed Extract, Wild Sea Fennel and Vitamin E to deeply nourish, protect, moisturise and even re-balance the skin with each and every use. My only word of advice is that if you are sensitive to natural oils to maybe patch test this balm before applying to the entire face as it contains essential oils of Orange, Neroli, Mandarin, Jasmine and Rose.

Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm 10th Anniversary Edition

At the moment you can grab a rather pretty, not to mention supersize version (200g) of Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm which also comes with a Dual Action Cleansing Cloth, and 5g of Rosehip Exfoliating Seeds for £68 – link.

Rediscovering My Love Of Soap & Glory: New Body Care Products Suitable For 'Grown Ups'

Few brands can compete emotionally with the iconic pink bottles and sweet scent of Soap & Glory. Launched at the perfect time, when beauty was otherwise quite stale and samey, it encapsulated what the industry should be about: effective products,…

Charlotte Tilbury #Glowgasm Collection Review Swatches

There are only two brands in which I can list, that have in recent years created their own look, true identity and perhaps even methods of make-up application: Glossier for their stripped-back, barely-there approach and Charlotte Tilbury for their glam, almost-90’s supermodel aesthetic. Admittedly I have time for both approaches but if I’m entirely honest I’m a Charlotte Tilbury fan girl and fawn over most products launched by the queen of glowing skin, none more so than the recent Glowgasm collection.

The slogan for the Glowgasm collection is “Light Up Your World” and the two new Charlotte Tilbury Glowgasm Face Palettes. Each kit contains four, gloriously, glow-y powders that can be used on the face and eyes for all over radiant look. There are two colourways to choose from: Lightgasm (for light/medium complexions) and Lovegasm (for medium/deep complexions), each of which have been tailored matched to compliment a wide range of skin tones.

Sure you’ve tried other Charlotte Tilbury highlighting powders, blushes and bronzers in the past but the formulation this time around is completely different. Yes each powder within the Glowgasm Face Palettes is pressed but it has an almost gel like texture that melts into the skin and creates a foil like finish. If you enjoy the MAC In Extra Dimension Powders and/or the Estée Lauder Gelee Highlighters, I have a sneaky suspicion you won’t be able to get enough of the Glowgasm Face Palettes. You can find both of the Charlotte Tilbury Glowgasm Face Palettes here for £60 each – link.

Speaking of highlighters, for those who gravitate towards liquid formulations then you may want to bookmark the three (yes three!) new shades of the ever raved about Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Wand. This easy to apply, blend and store liquid highlighter is incredible diverse; depending on the shade, wear on your cheekbones for a subtle, uplifting glow, apply to the cheeks in lieu of blush or go all out and dab a smidgen onto your eyelids – the uses are endless with a little imagination. The three new and sadly limited edition shades of the Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Wands are: Pinkgasm (a rosy-pink hue with a golden undertone, not entirely dissimilar to NARS Orgasm), Goldgasm (a true yellow gold) and Peachgasm (a muted and again yellow toned peach tone). You can find all existing shades of the Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Wands here for £29 each – link.

For a moment, I didn’t realise that the Charlotte Tilbury Dreamgasm Eyeshadow Palette existed as I was blinded by the beauty that is the two Glowgasm face palettes. If you enjoy warm, slightly pinked eyeshadows then you are in for a treat as this neat little compact, contains two rosy bronze hues coupled with a light, neutral highlight shade and one perfectly formed, beach-ready bronze. I’m sure the swatches speak for themselves but much like every Charlotte Tilbury palette I have tried over the years this applies, blends and wears perfectly- sure it isn’t cheap but the quality is more than there.

Cream eyeshadows often get a bad rap, sometimes they are too sheer, generally tricky to apply, crease too quickly or all of the above. I get it but before you cast off any entire beauty category, may I urge you to try the Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmerise formula. Not only is each shade beautifully pigmented but the cooking formulation quickly and effortlessly slicks onto the skin, delivering a true and shimmering wash of colour that stays put for hours. The two new additions joining the Eyes to Mesmerise line up for a limited time only are: Rose Gold (a true, yellow based rose gold hue) and Star Gold (a bold, bright, copper). On certain skin tones, both shades can double up as cream highlighters too. Find them both here for £22 each – link.

Due to really random and dare I be dramatic, pretty severe allergies, I am actively avoiding anything that promises to plump the lips – I’m sure nothing would happen as this is a collagen based product but really I can’t be too careful. As such I hope you’ll forgive me for the lack of swatches and trust my word when I say that the Charlotte Tilbury Collagen Lip Baths (or at least the ones I’ve tried in the past) are nothing short of luxury. Think of them as the collision of lip balm, plumper, tint and gloss all rolled into one neat little package; the gentle formula hydrates, plumps and adds both a slick of sheen song colour in one swift move. The two, new and limited edition shades are: Peachy Plump (a medium, almost coral Peach with golden reflects) and Rosy Glow (a dusky, rose gold with a purple shift). Find both shades for £25 each here – link.

Do I wish deep down that there was a #Glowgasm lipstick within this collection? Yes but otherwise, it is utter perfection and one that is truly inclusive both in variety of shades and formulations. If you like glowing skin (and who doesn’t) then I highly suggest you grab the limited edition Charlotte Tilbury Glowgasm whilst you can.
