Vlog: A House Update

house renovations

One for those who have been desperate to see my house renovation progress – a quick peep at my new front door, cladding, kitchen and master bedroom. I’m so sorry, I did mean to do a whole video series on the house but most of the work that was worth filming started to happen when I was very heavily pregnant, and then Baby AMR came along…

Maybe I’ll do a proper video series once I’m back in? I did record bits of video throughout, and took lots of photos, so it could still work as a retrospective kind of thing. Anyway, here’s the update – for your reference, the kitchen is from ALNO, the en suite tiles are from Abbey Tiles in Waltham Abbey and the wallpapers in the master bedroom are by Cole & Son (Hexagons) and Zoffany (Wild Silk in Bronze). The front door is from the brilliant people at Associated Glass in Loughton, and the cladding has been made and fitted by our building contractors, Mason Construction. I’ve linked to their websites – the wallpaper can be found at John Lewis online, we ordered from Brewers.

Tint-spired Spring Looks with Short, Broke & Happy

Hey Guys,

It’s Kari from the blog Short Broke and Happy. Benefit asked me to guest blog on Friends With Benefit and I couldn’t be more excited about it. Today I’m going to be talking all about tints and balms.

Unknown

With spring right around the corner, I am slowly transitioning my makeup routine to match the upcoming season. I don’t know how the weather has been where you live, but I can tell you that this past winter here on the East Coast has been brutal. I tend to wear heavier makeup in the fall/winter and keep it a little lighter in the spring/summer months.

I had the opportunity to try out chachatint, lollitint, benetint, and posietint as well as chachabalm, benebalm, and posiebalm. Benefit’s tints and balms are perfect for spring. The tints take the place of your blush, or even add an extra pop of color underneath your blush. They leave the skin looking dewy, fresh, and they are all perfect for day or night. The balms add a pretty tint of color to the lips. They are moisturizing and are the perfect size to throw in your purse for touchups. The best part about the balms is that the color is buildable so you could go with a sheer tint or an extra bit of color.

The tints did not disappoint. I think my favorite part about them is that the colors are so buildable. I could wear a light layer during the day and add a bit more at night. There is nothing more I love than dewy, glowing skin and I think each one of these balms add the perfect amount of glow to any look. I personally love adding High Beam to each one of these looks for an extra dewy look.

The application is so simple. Just dab a few dots on the apples of your cheeks and distribute using a patting/spreading motion. You want to move quick with the tints since they do dry fast.

These balms are amazing. Since I tend to have dry lips year long, (lucky me, right?) I am always on the lookout for a hydrating balm. I really love each one of these balms, because not only are they some of the most hydrating lip balms I’ve ever tried, but they also give the prettiest hint of color. I can totally picture myself wearing these all spring and summer long. I see it now, I’m laying on the beach somewhere tropical, sipping a cold drink, and looking oh’ so fresh with my bronze skin and pretty lips. OK, so I don’t think I’ve ever been “bronze” but you get the idea.

Thank you so much for reading.

xoxo,

Kari

August Skincare and Makeup Favourites

makeup and skincare favourite products

Monthly favourites are here again – the weeks are just hurtling by, aren’t they? Before we know it, it’ll be the C-word! (Christmas.) It’s quite a sharp and to-the-point beauty edit, this month, partly because for half of it I was testing out the Genifique serum and therefore slightly restricted, skincare-wise; but mostly because I’ve been incredibly lazy with my makeup routine. I’ve been “off-duty” in terms of appearance; stuck indoors ploughing through mountains of work, wearing tracksuits with various food stains on them and looking distinctly unglamorous. But I am fully intending to get back into the swing of things next week, so expect a barrage of foundation reviews and eyeshadow pictures and lipstick swatches…

M&S Pure Super Grape

Pure

At the beginning of the month, I went on a little trip out of town to the Chapel Down Winery in Tenterden, Kent. It was the day before I went on holiday and such a lovely way to unwind pre-trip. I was there to see the source of the resveratrol used in the M&S Pure Range of skincare – the vineyards! Not only is M&S using crushed pulp from English wine, but Chapel Down also makes wine for M&S so the byproduct of their own wine goes straight into their skin care. That’s the kind of recycling I can get excited about!
