Caudalie Vinoperfect Brightening Dark Spot Serum Review | Vitamin C Alternative for Hyperpigmentation & Glow

I often hear from readers who want brighter, more radiant skin but struggle with traditional Vitamin C formulas. If that sounds familiar, Caudalie Vinoperfect Brightening Dark Spot Serum is always one I recommend taking a look at.

This serum is formulated to target dark spots, uneven tone and dullness without the irritation that some Vitamin C serums can caused and so it’s an absolutely brilliant alternative, especially for anyone who finds classic Vitamin C formulas too strong, unstable or difficult to tolerate.

This is a product that I’ve had in my rotation for quite some time, and I love it for radiance, pigmentation and overall skin tone. Here’s what you need to know.

What is Caudalie Vinoperfect Brightening Dark Spot Serum?

Caudalie Vinoperfect Brightening Dark Spot Serum - Pipette
Caudalie Vinoperfect Brightening Dark Spot Serum – Pipette

The Caudalie Vinoperfect Serum is formulated to:

  • Visibly reduce the appearance of dark spots
  • Improve hyperpigmentation and uneven tone
  • Boost overall radiance and glow
  • Deliver a brighter, more even complexion over time
  • Often positioned as a Vitamin C alternative, with a gentler approach to brightening that suits a wider range of skin types.

One of the standout ingredients is Caudalie’s patented Viniferine, derived from vine sap, which is designed to help visibly target dark spots and uneven skin tone. It is said to be 62 times more effective than Vitamin C when it comes to brightening action.

The formula also contains olive-derived squalane which helps to moisturise and soothe the skin in a really lightweight texture.

How To Use Caudalie Vinoperfect Brightening Dark Spot Serum

Apply the serum to clean, dry skin after cleansing and before moisturiser. I like to use it in the morning on clean skin. It layers really well under other serums and moisturisers, and it you don’t like too many layers, I find it hydrating enough on its own under SPF for day time.

Because the formula is so lightweight and non-greasy, it layers really nicely under makeup.

My Review of Caudalie Vinoperfect Brightening Dark Spot Serum

I have had this serum in my rotation for quite some time and have used it lots over the years. It’s a great one to have in my stash if my skin is feeling sensitive, but I still want genuine brightening action.

Texture & Formula

Caudalie Vinoperfect Brightening Dark Spot Serum Texture
Caudalie Vinoperfect Brightening Dark Spot Serum Texture

One of the things I love most about this serum is the texture. It has a beautiful lightweight, milky consistency that feels instantly fresh and comforting on the skin. It sinks in effortlessly and layers beautifully with the rest of my skincare and makeup without ever feeling sticky, heavy or greasy.

The formula feels hydrating, soothing and calming straight away, and leaves the skin feeling soft and plumped with a really healthy-looking radiance.

Key Ingredients

One of the standout ingredients of Caudalie Vinoperfect Brightening Dark Spot Serum is Caudalie’s patented Viniferine, derived from vine sap, which is designed to help visibly target dark spots and uneven skin tone. The brand states that it is 62 times more effective than Vitamin C when it comes to brightening action, which is why this serum is so often talked about as a gentler Vitamin C alternative.

The formula also contains olive-derived squalane which helps to moisturise and soothe the skin while maintaining that beautifully lightweight, non-greasy finish.

How It Performs

What I really like about this serum is that the brightening effect feels gradual and skin health-focused rather than overly aggressive. Instead of giving that strong active feeling that some pigmentation treatments can have, this works in a much gentler way to leave skin looking fresher, clearer and more even over time.

With regular use, you will see much more radiance and evenness in your skin and a lovely healthy look to your complexion.

  • More radiant
  • More even in tone
  • Less dull and tired
  • Smooth and healthy-looking

It’s the kind of serum that makes your skin look quietly better overall rather than dramatically changing it overnight.

Who It’s Good For

I think this is especially good for anyone who wants to tackle

  • Dark spots
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Post-blemish marks
  • General dullness

You can work to tackle these issues with this serum without the need of using a stronger active that could potentially upset the skin barrier. It’s such a great option if you’ve struggled with traditional Vitamin C serums feeling too harsh, irritating or unstable on your skin.

My Final Thoughts

This is such an easy brightening serum to use because it combines radiance with comfort brilliantly. The lightweight texture, soothing feel and non-greasy finish make it a really effortless addition to a skincare routine, and that’s why it has become such a cult product.

If you’re looking for a brightening serum that helps improve pigmentation and boost glow without compromising skin comfort, this is definitely one to have on your radar.

FAQs About Caudalie Vinoperfect Serum

Is Caudalie Vinoperfect Good For Sensitive Skin?

I think one of the reasons this serum has become so popular is because it offers a much gentler approach to brightening. A lot of pigmentation-focused products can feel quite aggressive on the skin, especially if they rely heavily on stronger acids or potent Vitamin C formulas. This formula feels far more comfortable and balanced. It’s hydrating, soothing and easy to tolerate, which makes it a really good option if your skin is prone to sensitivity, dehydration or irritation.

Why Is Caudalie Vinoperfect Called a Vitamin C Alternative?

Caudalie Vinoperfect is often described as a Vitamin C alternative because it focuses on improving radiance, dark spots and uneven skin tone without relying on traditional Vitamin C as the hero ingredient. It uses Caudalie’s patented Viniferine, derived from vine sap, to help visibly brighten and refine the complexion over time.

Does Caudalie Vinoperfect Help With Dark Spots?

Yes, this is exactly what this serum is designed to target. While it’s not designed to be an aggressive treatment, it works consistently to help skin look brighter, clearer and more even over time. It works particularly well for on post-blemish marks and sun-related dark spots.

Is Caudalie Vinoperfect Better Than Vitamin C?

I don’t think it’s necessarily a case of one being “better” than the other. It really comes down to your skin type, concerns and what your skin tolerates best. Traditional Vitamin C serums can be excellent for boosting radiance and helping to improve pigmentation, and I still think they have a really important place in a skincare routine. What makes Caudalie Vinoperfect different is that it offers a gentler approach to brightening.

Is the M&S Summer Beauty Bag Worth It?

In my opinion, yes. I think this is one of the strongest M&S beauty edits in recent years, especially if you love discovering premium beauty without paying full price.

At £40, M&S say the bag contains over £230 worth of products, and there’s a really good balance of skincare, haircare, body products and makeup inside.

What makes this edit feel particularly worthwhile is that it includes genuinely usable products from brands people already know and love, rather than lots of filler minis. The full-size ICONIC London Prep Set Glow, Hair by Sam McKnight Sundaze Sea Spray and Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion SPF50 already make the price feel justified before you even get to the rest of the bag.

I also think the product mix feels very wearable for summer. You’ve got glow-enhancing skincare, SPF, effortless hair texture, body glow and a fresh floral fragrance. They are all things that actually fit into a warm-weather routine rather than products that will sit forgotten in a drawer.

The inclusion of brands like Estée Lauder, Clinique, Color Wow and Hair by Sam McKnight definitely gives it a more premium feel too.

Another thing worth noting is that these M&S beauty bags* have a habit of selling out quickly every year.

If you’ve been wanting to try a few new summer beauty products, or you’re looking for a travel-friendly edit packed with well-known brands, I think this is a really good buy.

Dr Melaxin Peel Shot Exfoliating Black Rice Ampoule Review

I was completely influenced into buying the Dr Melaxin Peel Shot Exfoliating Black Rice Ampoule when I spotted it on the Boots Instagram feed where somebody was demonstrating it in store.

She applied a few drops onto dry skin and started rubbing it in, and all these little balls started forming on the skin, looking very much like dead skin cells lifting away instantly. It was one of those oddly satisfying skincare moments that makes you immediately add to basket. So obviously, I ordered it.

Here’s everything you need to know.

Here’s a quick demo of the Dr.Melaxin Peel Shot Exfoliating Black Rice Ampoule in action:

What is Dr Melaxin Peel Shot Exfoliating Black Rice Ampoule?

What is Dr Melaxin Peel Shot Exfoliating Black Rice Ampoule?
What is Dr Melaxin Peel Shot Exfoliating Black Rice Ampoule?

The Dr Melaxin Peel Shot Exfoliating Black Rice Ampoule is a Korean exfoliating treatment designed to smooth texture, remove dry skin and leave the complexion looking fresh and polished.

It combines gentle exfoliating acids with hydrating ingredients and a cellulose-based formula that creates that signature “rolling” effect on the skin as you massage it in.

The formula contains ingredients including black rice extract, gluconolactone (PHA), salicylic acid, niacinamide, glycerin and squalane, so while there is definitely a bit of theatre involved with the rolling texture, there are also genuine exfoliating and skin-smoothing ingredients in here too.

Key Ingredients

PENTA-RICE Complex – combines Rice Water Extract with PENTAVITIN to exfoliate, soften and hydrate the skin all at the same time. I think this is one of the reasons the Dr Melaxin Peel Shot Exfoliating Black Rice Ampoule leaves skin feeling smooth and polished without that tight or stripped sensation you can sometimes get after exfoliating.

Rice Water Extract – helps to soften the skin and gently refine texture while also keeping excess oil in balance. It gives the complexion that fresh, smooth and really clean feeling after use.

PENTAVITIN – hydrating ingredient that acts almost like a moisture magnet for the skin.

AHA + BHA – exfoliating acid blend helps lift away dead skin cells, smooth rough texture and encourage skin renewal. I think this combination works really nicely because you get effective exfoliation without the formula feeling too aggressive.

Niacinamide – helps support brightness, clarity and overall skin smoothness. It also helps give the skin that fresh, refined look after rinsing everything away.

How to use it

You apply the Dr Melaxin Peel Shot Exfoliating Black Rice Ampoule onto clean, dry skin and massage it gently over the face. As you work it in, the product starts to form little balls that roll across the skin before you rinse everything away with lukewarm water.

I have used it a few times so far and I use it straight after cleansing. If you are looking for a good cleanser, check out Best Cleansers for 2026 for all Skin Types & Budgets.

My Review

Dr Melaxin Peel Shot Exfoliating Black Rice Ampoule texture
Dr Melaxin Peel Shot Exfoliating Black Rice Ampoule texture

I have to say, the whole exfoliating “balling up” thing is extremely satisfying. I applied a few drops onto dry skin exactly as demonstrated online and started massaging it over my face. Pretty quickly, the formula started rolling up into little pieces and it genuinely feels like you are removing layers of dead skin.

However, and this is important, I absolutely do not think that is dead skin or gunk as many of the viral videos suggest. I think this is down to the Cellulose (which appears quite high up the ingredient list) that clumps together and forms those little balls that make it feel as though you are physically buffing away dead skin. It’s actually

This type of product is often referred to as a “gommage” exfoliator – remember the amazing Gatineau one*? The cellulose physically balls up during massage and helps create that satisfying exfoliating effect on the skin.

Is it a gimmick?

A little bit. But also… not entirely. As well as the cellulose which balls up to create a gentle physical exfoliation, the formula also contains proper exfoliating ingredients including PHA (Gluconolactone) and AHA (salicylic acid), so it is genuinely exfoliating the skin at the same time. For me, the important thing is the result, and the results are pretty good.

My skin felt very smooth afterwards. Not stripped, not tight, not sensitised, just properly polished and soft. It gives the skin that very clean, fresh, shiny look without making it feel over-exfoliated.

It works really well on flaky areas and dry patches and helps remove that rough surface texture that can make makeup sit unevenly. If your foundation has been catching on dry patches or clinging to texture, this works brilliantly at smoothing everything out beforehand.

One slightly odd thing I noticed was that in a couple of areas, the product seemed to cling onto the tiny hairs on my face and almost bind itself to them. I had to remove the little bits and a few hairs definitely came away with it. It wasn’t painful or irritating, just a bit strange, and I thought worth mentioning if you have peach fuzz or facial hair.

Who is it best for?

I think this is especially good for:

  • Rough or textured skin
  • Dry flaky patches
  • Dull skin
  • Congested skin
  • Anyone who loves instantly satisfying skincare

If you are very sensitive or using strong actives like tretinoin, I’d probably use this cautiously.

Final Verdict

The Dr Melaxin Peel Shot Exfoliating Black Rice Ampoule absolutely taps into that viral “look how much stuff is coming off my face” skincare trend, and yes, the rolling effect is definitely part science and part theatre.

But honestly? I still really like it. It leaves my skin feeling smooth, fresh and polished without irritation, and I can completely understand why people get hooked on using it. If you enjoy exfoliating products that give immediate gratification, this is a very fun one to try. I’d avoid over using it though.

Where to buy it

Dr Melaxin Peel Shot Exfoliating Black Rice Ampoule FAQs

Does Dr Melaxin Peel Shot Exfoliating Black Rice Ampoule really remove dead skin?

The Dr Melaxin Peel Shot creates a rolling effect on the skin that helps physically exfoliate and smooth texture. While not all of the rolled product is dead skin, the formula does leave skin feeling very soft and polished.

How often should you use it?

I think the Dr Melaxin Peel Shot Exfoliating Black Rice Ampoule is best used once or twice weekly depending on your skin type and sensitivity levels.

Is Dr Melaxin Peel Shot Exfoliating Black Rice Ampoule suitable for sensitive skin?

It is gentler than many acid exfoliators, however, sensitive skin types should patch test first because it contains exfoliating acids and fragrance.

Is it good for dry skin?

Yes, especially if you struggle with flaky patches or rough texture. It leaves the skin feeling very smooth without stripping away moisture.

Murad Lipid-Enriched Double Cleansing Balm Review

What is Murad Lipid-Enriched Double Cleansing Balm?

What is Murad Lipid-Enriched Double Cleansing Balm?
What is Murad Lipid-Enriched Double Cleansing Balm?

This is a solid-to-oil cleansing balm designed to melt away makeup, SPF and impurities while nourishing the skin. It’s formulated with barrier-supporting lipids and is designed to work as both a first cleanse in a double cleansing routine or as a standalone cleanser.

Murad Lipid-Enriched Double Cleansing Balm Review

Murad Lipid-Enriched Double Cleansing Balm dispenser

I have to admit, I didn’t expect Murad to launch a cleansing balm, but I’m really happy they did because this is a genuinely lovely product to use.

First of all, the packaging is very clever. Instead of dipping your fingers into a tub, you sort of shave off a small layer of balm. It actually reminds me a bit of sharpening a pencil, and you can get just the right amount each time. You really don’t need much either, just a small “triangle” worth is plenty. There’s no need to overload it.

Murad Lipid-Enriched Double Cleansing Balm texture
Murad Lipid-Enriched Double Cleansing Balm texture

I also found that I prefer melting it directly onto my face rather than warming it up in my hands first. It just feels neater and more controlled. The texture starts off slightly firm and a tiny bit lumpy, but it quickly transforms into a beautifully smooth oil that feels really elegant on the skin.

It’s a lovely product to massage in. I like to take my time with it, and it does an excellent job of breaking down makeup and SPF. It removes pretty much everything with ease, including long-wear formulas.

The scent is quite coconutty, but in a natural way, not artificial or overly perfumed. It just smells clean and comforting.

Once you add water, it emulsifies really nicely into a soft milk. I usually remove it with a warm cloth, and my skin is left feeling incredibly soft, smooth, and hydrated. Importantly, it never feels stripped or tight, which is exactly what I want from a cleansing balm.

It’s also very gentle around the eyes. It doesn’t sting and doesn’t leave that annoying cloudy film, which is a big win. I also really like how efficient it feels to use. Not having to dip fingers into a jar makes it feel more hygienic and just a bit more streamlined overall.

Murad says there’s no need to double cleanse with this, and while I would generally still use it as a first cleanse, I have used it on its own and it does remove everything well.

In terms of skincare benefits, I love that it includes ceramides for barrier support and fermented camellia oil, which helps it rinse away cleanly while still feeling nourishing. It’s a great option if your skin is feeling dry or compromised and you want something that cleanses without disrupting your barrier.

Overall, the Murad Lipid-Enriched Double Cleansing Balm is just a really lovely, well-thought-out product. If you enjoy cleansing balms, this is definitely one to try.

Texture & Formula

  • Solid balm that softens on contact
  • Melts into a silky oil
  • Emulsifies into a milky cleanser
  • Rinses clean without residue

Who is it Best For?

  • Dry or dehydrated skin
  • Anyone looking to support their skin barrier
  • Fans of cleansing balms
  • Those who wear long-wear makeup or SPF
  • Anyone who prefers a more hygienic balm format

Do You Need to Double Cleanse with the Murad Lipid-Enriched Double Cleansing Balm?

Technically, you don’t have to. This does a thorough job on its own. However, if you enjoy a double cleansing routine, it works perfectly as a first cleanse before going in with a second cleanser.

Final Thoughts

This is a really strong addition to the cleansing balm category. It combines effective makeup removal with genuine skincare benefits, and the packaging makes it feel fresh and a bit more elevated than your standard balm.

If your priority is clean, soft, hydrated skin without any stripping, this absolutely delivers.

Cleansing Balm vs Cleansing Oil. What’s the Difference?

This is something I get asked about a lot, and honestly, cleansing balms and cleansing oils essentially do the same job. Both are designed to break down makeup, SPF, excess oil and impurities without stripping the skin.

The main difference is really the texture and experience of using them. A cleansing balm starts as a solid texture that melts down into an oil as you massage it into the skin. That transformation process is part of the appeal. You get a bit more playtime and more of that facial massage element, which can make your cleansing routine feel more luxurious and spa-like.

A cleansing oil skips that first stage because it’s already in liquid form. It’s usually a little quicker and more straightforward to use, especially if you want something fast and efficient at the end of the day.

In terms of performance, neither is necessarily better than the other. It really comes down to personal preference. Some people prefer cleansing balms because they feel richer and more nourishing, especially if they have dry skin. Others love cleansing oils because they feel lightweight, quick and easy to rinse away.

Generally speaking:

  • Cleansing balms can feel a little more comforting and cocooning on dry skin
  • Cleansing oils are often preferred by those who like a lighter texture
  • Balms tend to offer a more sensorial experience
  • Oils can feel slightly quicker and less messy to use
  • Both work brilliantly for removing makeup and SPF

The important thing is finding a formula that removes everything effectively without leaving your skin feeling tight or stripped afterwards.

Murad’s Lipid-Enriched Double Cleansing Balm definitely leans into the more luxurious, treatment-style cleansing experience while still rinsing away really cleanly.

La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVAIR Serum Sunscreen SPF50+ Tinted Review

If you already love the original UVAIR SPF (and honestly, I really do), then this launch is a very exciting one. The new La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVAIR Serum Sunscreen SPF50+ Tinted version keeps everything that made the original such a standout, but adds that extra bit of complexion-enhancing coverage.

This is one of those products that sits right in that sweet spot between skincare and makeup, and I think it’s going to be very popular.

What is La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVAIR Serum Sunscreen SPF50+ Tinted?

What is La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVAIR Serum Sunscreen SPF50+ Tinted?
What is La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVAIR Serum Sunscreen SPF50+ Tinted?

This is a lightweight daily sunscreen with SPF50+ protection, now available in three tinted shades designed to give a sheer, skin-perfecting finish.

It’s essentially a tinted version of the original UVAIR serum sunscreen, but with a slightly more creamy texture and a soft-focus tint.

Tinted vs Original: What’s the Difference?

Here’s a quick breakdown:

Original UVAIR SPF

  • More fluid / serum-like
  • Completely invisible
  • Best for layering under makeup

Tinted UVAIR SPF

  • Slightly creamier
  • Sheer coverage
  • Satin skin-perfecting finish
  • Can replace light makeup

They are very similar formulas and so it really just comes down to whether you want coverage.

Shades Available

There are three shades:

  • Light (the one I have)
  • Medium
  • Deep

I have been using Light, and it works really beautifully with my skin tone. What I really like is that it doesn’t pull overly warm or orangey, which can often be the case with tinted SPFs. It’s quite neutral and just melts into the skin.

La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVAIR Serum Sunscreen SPF50+ Tinted Light Swatch

Texture & Application

The texture is slightly different to the original.

  • The original UVAIR is more fluid and serum-like
  • The tinted version feels a touch creamier and a bit more structured

It still feels very lightweight, but it holds its shape a little more when you dispense it, which actually makes it really easy to apply.

Speaking of application, the new packaging is great. It has that slightly chubby, rounded design with a nozzle that makes dispensing neat and controlled.

Finish & Coverage

This really surprised me. A lot of tinted SPFs lean quite dewy, but this one is much more of a natural satin finish. It’s not flat, but it’s definitely not shiny either andit almost sets itself on the skin.

The coverage is sheer but skin-perfecting. It just evens everything out in a really effortless way.

  • Blends incredibly easily
  • Doesn’t cling or gather
  • No pilling over skincare
  • Feels seamless on the skin

It’s one of those products that makes your skin look like your skin, but better.

La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVAIR Serum Sunscreen SPF50+ Tinted Light – After Photo (shade Light)

Can You Use This Instead of Foundation?

Yes, and this is where I think it really shines. Because it isn’t overly dewy, you can actually apply a proper amount (which is key for SPF protection) without it feeling heavy.

You could:

  • Wear it on its own
  • Add concealer for extra coverage
  • Or layer a small amount of foundation on top

I actually think it works brilliantly as a base, you just need less of everything else.

SPF Application (Important)

One of the biggest issues with SPF in makeup is that people don’t apply enough.

Because this has:

  • A lightweight feel
  • A non-greasy finish
  • No excessive glow

…it’s much easier to apply the correct amount without it feeling too much.

That’s a big win.

When to Choose Tinted vs Untinted

Go for the tinted version if:

  • You want a quick, one-step morning routine
  • You like light coverage
  • You prefer a more perfected finish without makeup

Stick with the original if:

  • You want something completely invisible
  • You wear fuller coverage foundation
  • You prefer a more traditional SPF step

Final Thoughts

This is a really elegant formula. It’s easy to use, flattering on the skin, and actually practical in terms of getting your SPF dose in, which is not always the case with tinted products.

If you already love the original UVAIR (review here), I think this is a very easy addition to your routine. And if you’ve been looking for a tinted SPF that doesn’t feel heavy, greasy, or overly glowy, this is definitely one to check out.

FAQs La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVAIR Serum Sunscreen SPF50+ Tinted Review

Is La Roche-Posay UVAIR Tinted good for oily skin?

I think this is a great one for oily skin as it has a very balanced finish that isn’t too dry or too oily.

Does it provide enough coverage to replace foundation?

Does the tinted SPF go orange?

In the Light shade, I find you get a great neutral result and it doesn’t go too warm or orangey.

Can you reapply it over makeup?

I think you can definitely gently top up with this during the day. You might want to add a bit more bronze or blush over the top, but I think this will work for application. If you want something lighter, you might prefer a mist. I am currently loving the Nip+Fab Peptide Fix SPF Spray*.

Is La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVAIR Serum Sunscreen SPF50+ Tinted fragrance-free?

No, the product does contain some fragrance.
