L’Occitane Almond Collection

L'Occitane Almond

L’Occitane Almond

The L’Occitane Almond Collection is one of my favourites – it’s ultra nourishing and so prettily scented. Almond Oil Shower Gel has so many awards I’m surprised it hasn’t found an agent and left for Las Vegas. So, a little upcoming news for the range – line extensions aren’t usually that noteworthy but one of the new items is Lighter Legs (£20) which I’m certainly interested in.

I once got very, very told off by a PR for making fun of a ‘heavy legs’ gel they had in their range – I’d never heard of heavy legs so I really didn’t understand but ever since then, I’ve made sure I’m more educated about it because tired and aching legs really aren’t funny. If you’re in the first flush of youth then tired and achy legs probably won’t have happened at all, but as you get along in life all sorts of aches and pains pop up that you hadn’t factored in. In France, ‘heavy legs’ is much more of a thing than it is here which isn’t to say that we don’t get achy and fatigued limbs, but more that we don’t really factor in treating them with non medical products. While L’Occitane Almond Collection Lighter Legs isn’t a medical treatment, the inclusion of menthol and peppermint essential oil certainly will refresh the sensation (although, of course, not deal with the cause) of tiredness in feet and legs. In fact, having used this kind of product (and my dad, who at 78 goes skipping off to Egypt every five minutes swears by them) it’s just a lovely, hot weather fatigue kind of relief. And if your limbs feel fresher, they also feel lighter.

I’m expecting L’Occitane Almond Collection Lighter Legs to get as many awards as Almond Oil Shower Gel when it launches in May. And if you’re wondering why the ballet book in the picture, it’s because the new products have been put to the test by members of the Royal Ballet – their top picks are going to appear as a collection, also in May. It’s tu-tu exciting!

Feelunique £500 Pinterest Giveaway

Feelunique-2BHair-2BHeroes-2BBeauty-2BBox-2BReview-2B-2-

I am a massive Pinterest addict which you may already know if you follow me there (Pinterest.com/GemmaMagpie) or on Twitter, and it’s my favourite form of procrastination. I have been avidly pinning for two years now, but only in the last twelve months have I really taken it more seriously after discovering its huge potential. Pinterest has become my biggest traffic source and every blogger should be utilising Pinterest if they want to improve their traffic. I’ve had the pleasure of working with a few brands thanks to my Pinterest, but imagine my delight when Feelunique contacted me and told me that they wanted to collaborate with me on a massive Pinterest giveaway – I was very excited to say the least.

We are giving away £500 of Feelunique vouchers in our Pinterest giveaway; one top winner will win a £250 voucher, and there will be five runners up who will win a £50 voucher. You can read the full terms and conditions here, but it’s incredibly easy to enter so you really must enter as the prizes are fantastic. If you’d like to enter this awesome giveaway, you must complete the following three steps;

  • You must create a public Pinterest board and name it ‘feelunique’s Makeup Magpies’ – it’s important that all entrants use this exact title otherwise we won’t be able to see your entries.
  • Once you’ve created your feelunique Makeup Magpies Pinterest board, it’s time to get pinning.. you need to pin your favourite Summer beauty looks to the board, alongside the products you’d use to create the looks which all must be pinned from the feelunique.com website. As per the terms and conditions, there should be no more than 50 pins per board.
  • Lastly, you must follow both feelunique and Miss Makeup Magpie on Pinterest to be entered.

Obviously I cannot enter myself, but here are a selection of the gems I’d purchase if I was lucky enough to win.. Feelunique really is beauty product heaven. Firstly I would go for the new Bumble and Bumble Surf Infusion £21.50 as it sounds like the perfect spray for creating beautiful beachy waves. I would also love to pick up the full size of the Benefit Roller Lash Mascara £19.50 as it’s my absolute favourite mascara of all time and my current tube is soon to finish. I got a sample of the DKNY MYNY Eau de Parfum £49 last month and I fell in love with it, so i’m dying to get hold of the full size. I’ve seen so many rave reviews for the new shades of the Clinique Cheek Pops £17, and I’ve already bought Pink Pop from the new line up, but Melon Pop is next on my list for sure as it’s so pretty. If I won, I’d have to have one splurge purchase and it would have to be the new ghd White Platinum Styler £165, as it’s the most amazing pair of straighteners which is proven to be healthier for the hair than other straighteners, and offers more shine too which has me sold completely.

If you would like some inspiration, you can see the board I created here with my favourite Summer beauty looks and the products I’d used to create them. I really hope you all enter as it’s such an amazing giveaway and I’m just so happy that Feelunique chose to collaborate with me on such a massive promotion; I feel very lucky indeed. If you have any questions regarding the giveaway at all, please comment below and I’ll do my very best to answer them but please check the terms and conditions for the more detailed information.

Good luck to all those that enter.. there are some amazing entries so far already, and it’s open until the 19th of July.

An Early Morning Makeup Transformation…

I was in Paris with the beautiful skincare brand Darphin the other week and decided that instead of having a blissful, baby-free lie-in at the hotel (Le Meurice), I’d set my alarm for 6am and get some filming done. What a berk. As it turned out, it didn’t get light enough outside for me to film in my room until about 7.30am so I sort of pottered about reading the copy of Grazia I nicked from the Eurostar lounge and cursing myself for being such a work-obsessed twit.

By the time the light was okay near the window I only had around half an hour to do my filming and so the any makeup I did needed to be quick and easy. It had been a sticky 31 degrees outside in Paris the day before and so it also had to be makeup that would hold in place and not slide about. I went for my trusted favourite, foundation-wise – the Perfection Lumiere Velvet from Chanel – and kept everything pretty simple. A bit of bronzer, something shady on the eyes and a posh nude lipstick.

You can see the full process, including room service interruption (for your information, I had a fresh fruit platter, a yoghurt, a pastries basket, an orange juice and poached eggs on toast with a side of bacon – the baby-to-be made me do it) in the video below or by clicking here. I’ve listed the products used at the bottom of the page – I must do a standalone review for the new Bourjois concealer because it really is tip-top.

Enjoy…

Summer Skin Saviours from La Roche-Posay | Advertorial

La Roche-Posay
I admit, when it comes to hot weather – I fail miserably. I’ve been travelling more and more recently, and during a trip to LA, I got to experience the hottest weather I’ve ever been subjected to.
There were a few things I learnt during that trip to LA. One thing being to never travel to a warm climate without a deep conditioning hair mask & hair oil. The second being that a good SPF is absolutely vital.
The La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL Dry Touch creamis one of my favourite SPF products. I love how easy it is to use – with a small amount being all you need to cover your whole face. It’s light on the skin and blends out beautifully without leaving a greasy texture behind. This has certainly been a skin saviour for me in recent months, and It’s one of the first items I reach for come morning time.
For quick summer morning skin prep, the La Roche-Posay Micellar water (which I previously spoke about here) is a winner – especially come morning time. It’s packed with micells to help remove dirt & pollution from your skin. It feels soothing oand a quick swipe over your face with a cotton pad in the AM is often all you need before you’re ready for makeup application.
For those on the go, the brand new La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo [+] Unifiant could be the saviour you’ve been looking for. Ideal for post gym makeup application or if you’re having a no makeup day. It’s the same formula as the Effaclar Duo [+] that helps to fight against acne-prone skin this time with a hint of a tint to unify the tone of blemishes while working to reduce their size and redness whilst unclogging pores at the same time. Ideal for those days when you have no desire to apply makeup but would also like a little coverage, Alternatively, if full coverage is your thing – you can also wear it under foundation as a primer to get the best of both worlds!

Clinique Long Last Glosswear

Long Last Gloss Wear

I always think that Clinique Long Last Glosswear is a little bit overlooked – it has an 8 hour last claim on it which in my experience isn’t quite the case, but as long lasting as gloss can be, Clinique have it nailed. When I compare to say, Bobbi Brown, it’s a very similar formula and feel, and up against the new breed of lip oils or similar gel-glosses, it does last longer, but obviously, it feels stickier. If you’re a gloss fan, like me, and you don’t mind that little bit of tacky feel, then these are well worth a look. Clinique Long Last Glosswear isn’t new, but they’ve added some new shades – the ones I have here all have a little bit of glimmer to them. I’ve taken pictures in a warm light so you can see the glimmer and then in a cool light which shows the shades better. They’re all very light touches of colour, so going from the bottom to the top: Sweet Tooth, Adore U, Bamboo Pink and argh.. the final one, the label has fallen off! Blogger problems, hey? But from checking on-line I think it’s Devoted. One of the things I… Read More
