Pierre Hermé’s Pamplemousse Rhubarbe…

pamplemousse rhubarb l'occitane pierre herme fragrance

Pamplemousse Rhubarbe sounds much better than “Grapefruit and Rhubarb”, doesn’t it? The French version makes me think of a delicious dessert with clouds of light meringue and some kind of tart, brightly-coloured sauce drizzled over the top. Or an amazingly light and fluffy cake, rather like a lemon drizzle cake, but using Pamplemousse instead, shot through with impossibly pink Rhubarbe jam. “Grapefruit and Rhubarb” just sounds like part of a shopping list.

Anyway, Pamplemousse Rhubarbe is one of the fragrances in the latest collection from l’Occitane; created with – oh! How weird is this? I just read the press release to find that Pierre Hermé,  co-creator of the collection, is a master pastry chef – the “Picasso of Pastry”, if you will. How bizarre that I thought of puddings and cakes before I’d even read the blurb? That’s a job well done, if ever I saw one – everything about this fragrance, from the packaging to the name, screams patisserie.

The fragrance itself starts off fruity and slightly sharp, as I suppose you’d expect, but with woody little undertones that creep out and overtake after a few minutes of wear. It’s initially rather like a cologne, but with the added spice and warmth from the clove, the nutmeg and the cedar, it becomes something altogether more interesting. If you like your citrus scents – fresh and fruity – then you’ll enjoy this twist.

And the box – there’s something very pleasing about this type of cardboard packaging. It reminds me of expensive truffles, or of those old-fashioned talcum powder containers. Either way, associations that are lovely and decadent – it feels like the kind of present that you’d pick up for yourself in a tiny shop down a rickety little one-way street. Very pretty, and priced quite nicely for Christmas presents (if you’re already thinking along those lines!) at £46 for 75ml.

Sarah Chapman Morning Facial

Morning Facial

Morning Facial

This product, Sarah Chapman Morning Facial, is my absolute obsession at the moment. It’s quite easily one of the best skin oils I’ve ever used and better still, it delivers on the promise of glowy skin (at least, on my skin).

Designed for morning use, even though it’s an oil, it doesn’t leave your face glistening with oil – it’s not matte exactly, but certainly nobody would be any the wiser that you used oil that morning.

The promise from Sarah Chapman Morning Facial is to hydrate, boost radiance and plump fine lines while protecting skin from pollution and – beauty buzz word coming up: inflammation.  All boxes ticked on the hydration and radiance element. It’s harder to say whether it’s delivering on fine lines but the overall effect is one of supple and dewy skin – and it feels so soft! Ideally, use it under your day moisturiser, but since I’m using a Garnier BB cream, I’m getting moisture properties and SPF from that.

I would 100% recommend Sarah Chapman Morning Facial – I’m actually using it as a night oil as well and loving the effects. You can find it for £45 HERE.

Ingredients:

COLLAGENEER, JUVINITY, KALPARINE, TIMECODE, ROSEHIP OIL, VITAMIN A PALMITATE, GATULINE INTENSE, ULTRA FILLING SPHERES, HYDRASOURCING (AM+PS), ANTILEUKINE 6, PASSION FLOWER OIL, NYAMPLUNG OIL, SEA BUCKTHORN OIL BAOBAB OIL, BORAGE OIL, ARGAN OIL.

(Guatalene and Collageneer are trade names for two ingredients – collageneer contains white lupin and has shown up well in testing on the claims of lifting and firming).

Dr Organic Lip Balm

Dr Organic Lip Balm

Lip balms are really ten a penny – they’re everywhere and the price variation is enormous. Dr Organic Lip Balm isn’t what you could call a glamour product, but it’s a solid, reliable balm that does the job. A blend of shea butter, argan, avocado and almond oils break down that waxy feel that some balms have, but it does contain beeswax so you do get the barrier element as well as softening. Best of all, Dr Organic Lip Balm has some very interesting scents (or flavours, I can never quite tell) that aren’t the usual bubblegum/strawberry assault. I’m wearing Cherry, and yes, it is that blast-from-the-past Bonne Bell kinda thing, but it doesn’t last further than the initial application so you won’t be tempted to lick it. However, Cherry aside, you can pick from Virgin Olive Oil, Liquorice, Coconut, Ice Mint or Tea Tree. Personally, I’ve found that these balms are very, very good barrier balms although I don’t find them particularly lip conditioning although they do seem to be softening. If cold or windy weather lies ahead, make sure you have one tucked in your pocket! At £3.49 (Holland & Barrett have a ‘buy one get one half… Read More

Makeup Revolution Girl Panic Swatches

Girl Panic

Here they come – the Makeup Revolution Girl Panic Swatches! While all the other Salvation palettes have erred to the smoky eye side of things, colourwise, Girl Panic is much more spring like and pastel based.

Girl Panic

As usual, it’s packed with 18 shades of colour – two rows of metallic sheen and the bottom row is matte.

Row 1

Row one from left to right: Panic on the Street, By Invitation, Going On Somewhere, I Am Beaten, Voices In My Head, City Trap.

Row 2

Row 2 is: Girlfriend, Chelsea Mayhem, Random, Going Nowhere, Get Closer and Demolition.

Row 3

Row 3: Going Under, Let It Happen, Naked Through, Hypnotic, Mesmerised, Clever Words.

Funnily enough, I like the matte row best, even though I’m not really a matte fan – there are a lot of useful base colours in there.

The Makeup Revolution Girl Panic Palette is £6 and launches on 5th December on the MakeUp Revolution website, HERE.

50% Off in the Very Exclusive VIP Sale Preview! #ad

very exclusive sale preview vip

I have never been able to resist a bit of a discount and usually, when sales time comes around, I will hunt high and low for something – anything – to buy in order to take advantage of the reduced prices. But when it’s the Very Exclusive sales, things take a bit of a dangerous turn, because instead of having to hunt for things that I *quite* like among rubbish like unwanted lime-green rubber knee-high boots and unfeasibly cropped sweaters, I find myself in an online world where something gorgeous pops up with every click. I end up wanting everything. My shopping basket ends usually has about thirty things in it before I’ve even edited the first draft of my post!

Once again I have an amazing code to share – this one entitles you to 50% off ANYTHING in the VIP sale preview. There are over 1800 items. Not one lime-green knee-high boot to be seen. I’ve picked out a few of my favourite things below – needless to say, I’m not letting this post go live until I’ve secured my most coveted items! I learnt that lesson the hard way earlier this year when I posted about all of my sales picks and not a single one was still available when I clicked through to buy them.
