REN Perfect Canvas Clean Jelly Oil Cleanser Review

REN Perfect Canvas Clean Jelly Oil Cleanser Review

Over the last few months, I have found that REN have somewhat became my go-to brand for skincare staples as a lot of their products are Vegan (and therefore cruelty-free), a lot of their packaging is sustainable and of course the have some wonderful formulations too. As an avid SPF and make-up wearer, I go through cleanser like there is no tomorrow and as such I was keen to try out the newly launched REN Perfect Canvas Clean Jelly Oil Cleanser.

REN Perfect Canvas Clean Jelly Oil Cleanser – doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, as far as a product title goes it is fairly long-winded; what you need to know is that it is a “melting balm” type of substance and a little firmer in texture, than what we would typically associate with a “jelly” formulation. In my opinion this is nothing but a bonus, as it means you use less product and with a more substantial composition you are less likely to spill or waste any product, and yet it yields more than enough slip to gently massage and treat the skin. I own and in the past have tried several balm-type cleansers and have to say that the texture of the REN Perfect Canvas Clean Jelly Oil Cleanser is nothing short of beautiful, it glides onto the complexion with such ease (ideal if you have to be extra cautious with blemish prone skin), yet feels soothing and nourishing all at once.

So unlike other cleansers of this nature, REN Perfect Canvas Clean Jelly Oil Cleanser actually boasts a unique tri-phase formulation: jelly to oil then milk. As such it can effortlessly dissolve and of course remove waterproof makeup, pollution, SPF and more – it is also gentle enough to use around the eye area should you wish. Admittedly I am a huge fan of double cleansing, especially after a long day but should you be pressed for time, this quick to work formula has your back meaning you can climb into bed, guilt-free knowing your make-up has been fully removed.

Typically I don’t get too wrapped up in the finer details of a cleanser, at least not where ingredients are involved as it doesn’t stay on the skin any length of time before being rinsed off. For those more cautious than I am the core ingredients are as follows: glycerine to comfort and soothe the skin and a base of grape (antioxidant rich), sunflower (regenerating and great for acne) and meadowfoam oils (moisturising and rejuvenating).

Now at £25/100ml this is by no means a cheap and cheerful product, however the formulation is stellar and I do think it is worth noting that the packaging is constructed from no less than 50% recycled materials and the entire thing is recyclable, once too the contents are depleted too.

A Foray Into Beauty Pie Fragrance

Beauty Pie Love Eau de Parfum Review

It has taken me a little longer than most to warm to the Beauty Pie concept, purely because I don’t really enjoy being restricted but in a world of fast consumerism, it has to be said that Beauty Pie’s monthly spending cap is somewhat light years ahead. It could be argued that such set up, encourages those amongst us who are a little more frivolous to perhaps shop with a more considered attitude. Over the last few months I have been more than dabbling with various Beauty Pie selections but the one that gained the most traction over on Instagram has to be the fairly new Beauty Pie Love Eau de Parfum. As soon as I shared a quick story about the recently available scent my inbox pinged pretty wildly with lots of questions and the odd pairing recommendation (Jo Malone Red Roses seemed to come out on top) or two much to my delight.

Beauty Pie Love Eau de Parfum Review

Beauty Pie Love Eau de Parfum is a soft, fruity (and juicy at that), floral and flirts between seductive and playful in each spray – if Valentines Day was a scent, it would be this. It has all the body and flair of an expensive eau de parfum at a discounted cost without compromising on wear time, style nor fragrance notes for that matter.

As you may be away Beauty Pie is a members only club, meaning you do have to sign up and pay for the benefits, how long and how much you pay is however entirely up to you (well to some extent as it is a tier system). I’ve openly said before that I am not quite sure how Beauty Pie tally up their “typical prices” and often feel that they are exaggerated; for instance Beauty Pie Love Eau de Parfum is listed at £125 but £16.60 for members, take into consideration that a 100ml bottle of Jo Malone Cologne retails for £98 and you can understand why eyebrows and questions are often raised. None the less at £16.60 for a huge and frankly delectable bottle of scent is nothing short of a bargain, regardless of how you do the equation.

Rather rightly, Beauty Pie describe their new launched Love Eau de Parfum as having the capabilities to be “your new favourite ‘daily’ fragrance” and as it ticks so many boxes (uplifting, light yet makes a statement), I’d have to agree. The fragrance triangle (or note pyramid) is rather interesting: top – Calabria Bergamot, Pink Rhubarb, Quince; middle – Black Orchid, Apricot Nectar, Honeysuckle, Muguet and at the base – Golden amber, Cedarwood, Sandalwood, Musk.

What I like about Beauty Pie Love Eau de Parfum is that it is a grower, on first wear I wasn’t entirely convinced of its merit and yet slowly but surely, I have fallen for its gentle charm. Love is fresh yet cosy, familiar yet uplifting (almost akin to line dried laundry on a Spring day) and easy to wear – really you couldn’t ask for much more from a scent that has been created to slot nicely into your daily routine.
