Guerlain Terra Tropica

Guerlain Terra Tropica

If you aren’t already bronzered-up, there’s a new entry into the Beautiful Bronzer category; Guerlain Terra Tropica . It’s a John Lewis exclusive and costs £45 – to my eyes, it’s stunning! I love how bronzers have totally upped the ante this year – genuinely I don’t think I’ve seen better or more gorgeously embellished that what’s on offer this year. So, Guerlain Terra Tropica has the right mix of blush and bronze so you can pick and choose whether you want to use a swirl of both or individual shades. It’s super-size (although I don’t have a sample here so can’t say what super-size exactly means). A little tip from Olivier Echaudemaison is to use the ‘Figure of 3′ method of application – so start to the side of the forehead, swoop round, in at the cheek and then swoop the jaw-line.

It’s launching this month (available in stores already but not yet on-line).

“Let me start by saying I have always been a huge fan of Benefit Cosmetics. Ok really—with that packaging, how could you not be?! I remember when I was younger I secretly wanted to be one of those Benefit girls behind the counter (hey, I guess I got my wish today in a different form!). One of the main reasons I love Benefit is because not only are the products great, they are packaged so perfectly. Plus, since many of the products have multiple uses (lip/cheek stains, etc..), they’re SO easy to travel with. Here are my faves to give off that summer glow you want for Memorial Day Weekend. Scroll down for the full tutorial and products!

Step 1:

I love to use the big easy multi-balancing complexion perfector because it spreads so easily, is lightweight and gives a velvety finish. I just apply it with my fingertips to moisturized skin.

Step 2:

Next I apply the hoola bronzing powder to my cheeks, forehead and chin for a more “tanned” look.

Step 3:

I love to use sugarbomb face powder as an everyday blush. It has different peach shades that blend perfectly together for a little pop of color on the cheeks.

Step 4:

Brow zings is a great kit to help you get perfect brows! Plus, it travels easy. After, I like to use the high brow glow right underneath my brow arch to highlight it.

Step 5:

I LOVE they’re real! mascara! I love to use it on my top and bottom lashes.

Step 6:

To instantly brighten eyes, apply ooh la lift to under eye area. Apply 3 dots and tap with fingertip to blend.

Step 7:

I love the ultra plush lipgloss in lollibop! It’s a perfect everyday color and moisturizes my lips so much!

Sunday Tittle Tattle: New Hair and Naughty Bear.

blonde hair

1) New hair – I’m a new woman! Blonder, a bit shorter, perfect for a bit of a springtime lift. Many thanks to Nicola Clarke and Andreas Wild at John Frieda for a superb job – I must get myself some of the Sea Waves sea salt spray (here) that Andreas spritzed through my hair before drying it. The whole textured, shaggy look really sets off the blonde highlights and makes everything look beachy and beautiful! I went to the John Frieda salon in Mayfair – you can find all salon details here.

2) Naughty Bear: Mr Bear is wreaking havoc at my parents’ house! I’ve had to order a cat tree with scratching posts to stop him attacking their leather chair and headboard and John Lewis rug. (Reported to me in that order. Also he broke a glass fruit bowl by jumping in it, and smashed two bottles of beer that my brother had been saving for his relaxing weekend drink!) Naughty, naughty Bear. Oh, how I miss him. I’m counting down the weeks! (If you’ve missed my recent updates, he’s at my parents’ because our holiday let we’re staying in doesn’t allow cats.)

Small and Affordable Christmas Presents.

ruth crilly beauty blogger

I posted the first of my Christmas Gift Guides on Friday – this year I’m only doing two videos, one for smaller presents and one for larger or more luxurious offerings. There will be, of course, the annual candle video and I have a Christmas Decorations video coming up too, and if I see some particularly lovely additional things I will write about them here on the website as and when I find them. This video is for smaller or more affordable presents – please scroll down for a list of all of the products and links. If you can’t see the video screen then click here to watch on Youtube.

(PS sorry for the brevity of this post and also the absence of a post earlier today; Dexter the dog is still in hospital and I’m very down in the dumps. It takes a lot for me not to post, as you probably know!)

7 Budget Beauty Products You’ve Got to Try

7 Budget Beauty Products You've Got to Try

The say the thrill is the chase and for me that applies to budget beauty products. I enjoy nothing more than a quick trip to Boots or Superdrug, deciding what products to try next and often coming home with a handful of a handful of new launches with change in my pocket. Admittedly the budget beauty sector can be pretty hit and miss – I think as the years roll past (6 years of blogging and counting) there are more hits than misses- but when you do find that hidden gem, you can’t help but feel a little smug. Perhaps it has been a while since you last stopped by a budget beauty counter, or maybe you simply need a little encouragement? Either way, I have 7 products that will impress and don’t cost the earth…

MUA Skin Define Matte Perfect Primer £5 via Superdrug – link.

I have oily skin; I also have acne prone skin. This is not some beautiful equation, rather a nightmare of a combination for sourcing the perfect primer. I need – yes need – something that will not only sop up excess oil and gently blur my enlarged pores, but I also equally need – yes I am that demanding – something that won’t irritate my quick to blemish skin. Admittedly on a budget, up until recently this has been a fairly big task but so far I have been really enjoying MUA Skin Define Matte Perfect Primer. Yes this primer does contain silicones so that it is instantly mattifying and of course smoothing, yet it is oddly lightweight and so far (I’ve been using this daily for close to two weeks) it seems to agree with my quick to react complexion. If you are a fan of blurring type primers (think Benefit Porefessional et al) then this is one to definitely put on the to try this.

Kiko Heart Shaped Lipstick £6.90 via Superdrug – link

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and as such you may be on the lookout for a red lipstick fit for the main event? Well they don’t come much more suited to such love themed day, than the Kiko Heart Shaped Lipsticks – no your eyes do not deceive you, that is indeed a novelty moulded lipstick. Don’t let the fun aspect of this lipstick fool you, as it is indeed a beautiful, moisturising matte formulation that will reached for, long after Valentine’s Day has passed. I have the shade 05 Lively Amaranth – a deep almost red based pink that is slightly vampy, unusual – in that it is not your classic, run of the mill classic red – and yet surprisingly easy to wear.

7 Budget Beauty Products You've Got to Try

Rimmel Exaggerate Full Colour Lip Liner in Call Me Crazy £3.19/$3.99 via ASOS – link.

If you are looking for a true red – Valentine’s Day related or not – I say skip lipsticks just this once and purchase Rimmel Exaggerate Full Colour Lip Liner in Call Me Crazy. This is the bright, slightly orange toned red that dreams are made of; it brings just about every complexion to life, is long wearing, entirely matte, long wearing and comfortable to wear. It is a complete bargain and your stash, make-up bag and/or coat pocket needs it.
