Knickers To Help You Sleep Well

Fundoshi

If you’re a regular BBB reader, you’ll know that I love anything Japanese and quirky – some of their more out-there beauty inventions literally have me slack-jawed! However, I came across these help-you-sleep-pants. Fundoshi are traditional Japanese loin cloths, I suppose you would call them, but they’ve been prettied up and repackaged as a sleep aid.

And here’s the why: usual knickers have elastic strips round thighs and waist (if you’re wearing them that high!) that can lead to poor blood circulation which in turn lead to a ‘stuffy feeling’ and possibly even skin irritation – which THEN can trigger a sleep disorder. Well, who knew?

With Fundoshi, there is no elastic, so you’ll apparently feel freer downstairs and thus sleep like a lamb.

It’s just that simple, although maybe someone needs to explain the theory of sleeping with a) no knickers at all or b) pyjamas.

A Model Recommends on Vogue Australia

Thank to to the lovely readers and viewers who directed me to the Vogue Australia website yesterday; there I was, in full technicolor, massaging my face with a balmy cleanser! Very honoured to be pulled out as the creator of one of the “best skincare tutorials” – I must give this video another watch. I’ve plopped it onto the screen below if you fancy giving it a re-run. I filmed it quite a while back now, way before I moved house, at any rate. Oh, how I miss my ultra-swish bathroom with its dark bronze tiles and its big, illuminated mirror. I couldn’t film a video in my new bathroom, not as it stands – there’s not even enough space to do a quick spot of body-brushing, let alone squash in a tripod and lighting set-up!

The Sicilian Woman Scorned: My Dolce & Gabbana Inspired Look

ruth crilly fashion model blogger

Today I have been playing the “Sicilian Woman Scorned” in my Dolce & Gabbana inspired outfit. I absolutely adore the ad campaigns that Dolce & Gabbana release every season; there’s just something so sexy and womanly about the way that they style things and the whole “pencil skirt, nipped-in waist and undone blouse” look never really goes out of fashion. There’s also something incredibly chic about wearing all-black outfits in the height of summer; the clothes look so sharp and slick in the harsh light of the day and so sultry and mysterious as darkness begins to fall.

This is an amazing look for smart evenings out – it’s probably a little too much for daytime in the office, depending on what kind of office you work at, but you could always go for a less sheer blouse! The one I’m wearing is from Oasis and I would definitely snap one up if you’re into your shirts – this one looks great with jeans as well as pencil skirts. Oasis cut their shirts really well, I think –  I have loads of them now in different fabrics and colours. The blouse is at Oasis here, it costs £35 and you can get superfast delivery (same day!) if you’re really keen to get into it…

The skirt is from Topshop. It’s kind of a weird one, really, because the lining underneath the lace stops very high up the leg; if there wasn’t the lace overlay in place then it’s the kind of skirt that would show the bottom of your bottom. If you catch my drift. Anyway, that aside, it’s beautiful; lovely thick lace that looks really expensive. It is actually quite expensive – for Toppers, at least: £75 here.

I’ve worn chunky gold jewellery with my outfit; I love black outfits with gold accessories! The bracelet is from ALDO, you’ve already seen that in last week’s post. The ring is a thick chain-style ring from Kurt Geiger – find it here at ASOS, it’s £25. You can see it in more detail in one of the photographs above. The shoes I am sinking into the grass in are from Whistles – they’re the classic French 65 Heels that they have as a permanent fixture. I’m not going to lie and say that you could run for a bus in them, but as far as sexily-sloped high heels go, they’re pretty sturdy and not eye-wateringly uncomfortable. On the Heel Comfort Judgement Scale, I reckon you could do a slowish walk from Oxford Circus tube station to the bottom of Carnaby Street and then have some cocktails, standing up, and a bit of dinner, sitting down. After that you’d probably want a cab home. But you could get to the loo unaided, definitely… The French 65 shoes are here at Whistles. They also have them in pink with a third off – see here.

Now let’s talk about the tortoiseshell aviator sunglasses: these are EXCELLENT if you have a small head. Or a small face. They are really very petite, these sunnies; I’d go so far as to say that if you have a relatively normal sized head, they will look too small for you. But the pea and pin-heads of the world can rejoice: these cost me £15 from ASOS! They are really nicely made – you’ll be seeing these again later on in the week when I show you the other bargain ones that I picked up. In the meantime, find the sunglasses for pin-headed people HERE.

What do you think? This is one of my favourite looks ever and I’m really pleased with the black chiffon shirt from Oasis. I think I’m off to book a holiday to Italy!

GOSH Sea Me Nail Polish

GOSH Danielle

GOSH Danielle

If you’ve got an excellent make-up memory then you might remember that last year, Superdrug and GOSH ran an Instagram competition for two people to create their perfect make-up colour. I’ve just received the winning nail polish colour, created by Danielle Graves from Leeds, and it’s stunning! Called Sea Me,  it’s a swimming pool turquoise with a shimmery twist – it almost feels textured. The shimmer is a mix of silver and green with occasional flecks of iridesence that gives off a pinky/blue twinkle. The shimmer is micro glitter, so no chunks in sight, but it catches the sunlight really well.

Congratulations Danielle! GOSH Sea Me Nail Polish is HERE for £3.99.

Tom Ford Orchid Soleil : Liquidised Holiday Vibes

Tom Ford Orchid Soleil Review

Those still searching for their signature summer scent might like to give Tom Ford’s Orchid Soleil a try. It’s heady but not cloying, exotic but in the “steamy, sexy nights” way instead of the “I’ve got a lovely bunch of coconuts” sort of way. You know the exotic scents I’m talking about: Pina Colada crossed with a blowsy white floral. Perfectly lovely – and popular for summer – but this is not one of those.

Though Orchid Soleil is heavy on the white florals – it’s absolutely drenched in tuberose, for a start – it seems to have a sunny, happy disposition rather than anything that takes itself too seriously. Which is unusual for a Tom Ford scent – I don’t think I could describe any of the others, Private Blend or non, as “cheerfulness in a bottle”, but I’d stick that label on Orchid Soleil in the blink of an eye. It’s like a flask of condensed sunshine. A flacon of liquidised holiday vibes.

And just look at that rose gold bottle with its fluted sides and its inlaid label – true dressing table eye-candy. I thought at first that the glass had been covered in a sort of foil, but in actual fact when you hold it to the light it’s completely transparent. Rose gold in the light, transparent against it. Very chic.

You can find Orchid Soleil at most big department stores and online at Selfridges here – it’s £54 for 30ml or   £76 for 50ml. If you’re not crazy about the tuberose idea, then I can highly recommend these sexy and sultry summer scents. And there’s always the classic Bronze Goddess from Estee Lauder to carry you through to autumn if you prefer the whole “lost on a desert island” kind of vibe…
