Les Merveilleuses Ladurée Spring 2015

Les Merveilleuses Ladurée Powder Cheek

I am rather obsessed with Les Merveilleuses Ladurée. Some of my favourite and techologically forward products come from this brand – the nearest place we can source it in the UK is from Sephora.fr. Otherwise, it’s frustratingly hard to get hold of. Les Merveilleuses Ladurée Spring 2015 is as usual a collection of whimsy and rose fragranced colour. The packaging is everything with this range, and the spring design is lucky things – clovers, ladybirds and horseshoes (hate to say it, but Chanel have already pretty much taken this category already). The Petite Eye Color Collection, above, comes in three colourways, in a beautiful patterned package. I’m also quite happy to see that Essence (from yesterday’s post) are right at the top of the brush trend tree – this Les Merveilleuses Ladurée Spring 2015 brush with lilac ombre is EU52! The Essence version is a few quid at most. The problem with Les Merveilleuses Ladurée is that it is SO expensive – it would take a brave retailer in the UK to take it on. Quirky brands such as this, even though they offer a gorgeous point of difference, really struggle against Lauders and the like in beauty world, and it has no… Read More

Easiest Goat’s Cheese Salad

goat cheese beetroot salad

This is the easiest goat’s cheese salad ever. I eat loads of different goat’s cheese lunches but this one is the quickest to make as it requires no cooking, just the opening of a few packets! It’s barely a recipe, to be honest, and hardly even warrants a proper post, but I have it at least once a week and it’s properly delicious, so. Here’s the “method” – this serves two as a main course, though hungry people might want to supplement with a hunk of fresh bread or what have you:

100-150g soft goat’s cheese (or as much or as little as you want, obviously) – I like the Abergavenny one from Sainsbury’s.

1 packet of Sweetfire/Sweetflame/Cocktail beetroot. (Basically, beetroot that has been pre-cooked but then seeped in lovely stuff like balsamic vinegar and chilli and so on, rather than malt vinegar. The Sainsbury’s cocktail ones are good, and the “sweetflame” and so are Tesco’s Finest ones.)

1 small bag of rocket.

Salt, pepper, great quality olive oil and great quality balsamic vinegar or balsamic reduction.

Are you ready for the “how to”? Drop everything else, because you’re going to have to really concentrate… Open bag of rocket and place in salad bowl. Dress the leaves with the olive oil, a nice peppery one, and a drizzle of balsamic. I usually toss it all about with my hands to get all of the leaves nicely coated and add a bit of salt and pepper as I go. (Not much, though, because the goat’s cheese and beetroot don’t really need a lot of salt and the rocket is already peppery.) After this taxing bit of food prep, all that’s left to do is halve the already small beetroots and chuck them into the bowl and then add the goat’s cheese – I use two teaspoons to get little nuggets of cheese and slide them off into the salad. Don’t toss the salad about too much after this, otherwise the cheese gets all spread out and messy and the beetroot makes everything pink! That’s why I dress the leaves first.

Easiest salad ever. Pretty healthy, nice and colourful – you could add grilled peppers and cooked red onion into the mix, too, and hunks of roasted chicken breast taste lovely if you want to add more protein. It’s a brilliant stand-by lunch and doesn’t look too shabby if friends turn up and you need to knock something together quickly…

Chanel Cult Reds

Chanel Reds

Chanel Reds

Well, this is all kinds of unexpected! Three classic red polishes from the way back machine are being re-issued. Rouge Flamboyant, Laque Rouge and Rouge No.19 were all hits of the 1980s – I missed every single one of these because I didn’t work in beauty then and I didn’t have any money either! So, it’s a bit of a thrill to now have the chance to try them.

Chanel Nails

The first in the swatch is Laque Rouge with a touch of raspberry to it, the middle swatch is Rouge Flamboyant, a classic pillar box red and Rouge 19 has the tiniest bit of shimmer to it.

The Chanel Cult Reds (Les Rouges Culte de Chanel) launch on 7th November for £18 each.

Weekly Window Shop: Behind Closed Doors

Needless to say there’s not much in the way of extreme sexiness going on behind my closed doors at the moment – I’m now at the inflated-water-balloon-strapped-to-front-of-the-body stage of pregnancy and am also permanently knackered. However, the nights are drawing in, winter is coming and all of our minds are (mostly) turned to hibernation and/or spending more time in the bedroom. Without this post becoming some sort of Ann Summers erotic short story, I thought I’d round up some brilliantly decadent things (and a few frivolities) for those who are seduced by the idea of turning in early…

coco de mer massage figment

Coco de Mer Massage Candle, £35 from Selfridges here. I haven’t managed to get my mitts on this yet, but the scent description is right up my alley: sweet figs, heady orange blossom. Yes please. I always thought that massage candles would be a bit of a faff, but I’ve tried the ones from Oskia and Janjira and they work really well – warm oil, a lovely scented room…

luxury body cream If you’ve just given the candle idea a quick think-over and still said “nah, melting candles, too much faff” then I can highly recommend Jo Malone’s Oud & Bergamot Body Creme. (Find it here.) It’s a hefty £60 but the cream is so decadent and rich and the sultry scent is one of my all-time favourites.

lace bodysuit decadent lingerie

What to dress in after the sumptuous application of said body creme? The Triumph Amourette 300 Bodysuit: racy-lacy lingerie, in a non-flammable, classy sort of way. I actually have this bodysuit, and in the two week period when my post-partum figure was just getting good (before BAM! pregnant again) I wore it a couple of times to make myself feel like a femme fatale. Looks amazing peeking out from under a shirt that’s (possibly) unbuttoned one button too far. You can find it online here – it’s £65.

margot robbie la perla slip

Which is a hell of a lot easier on the bank balance than my other sexy number: the Maison Slip from La Perla. I actually have this too, in a slightly different colour, though I have never, ever worn it. I bought it on a mad hormone-fuelled shopping trip when I was pregnant last time, thinking I’d wear it as a celebratory sort of thing when the baby was born, not realising that it would be another year before I’d stopped ruining everything with leaked milk. Oh the glamour! One day, people, one day: I’ll slip on this slip and look just like Margot Robbie in Wolf of Wall Street, which was the film that made me go into La Perla in the first place…

margot robbie la perla

The slip costs an unspeakable amount of money here, if you fancy re-enacting your own Leonardo/Margot scene.

rosie cashmere pyjama set

For those who would rather be piling on the cashmere than stripping off the layers, may I suggest the Pure Cashmere Pyjama set by Rosie for Marks and Spencer? I would wear this OUT of the house, never mind in bed! Look at that chunky jumper! Lush. It comes in champagne, for those who don’t eat chocolate under the duvet, or black, for those who like to look like the Milk Tray man. And look: it’s not cheap – you can find it online here – but I’ve felt the cashmere and I can imagine that wearing this pyjama set would be like wearing clouds.
