The Real Unsung Hero of The Charlotte Tilbury Range

Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow Review

Everyone and their Mother raves about the Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks, eyeshadow palettes and of course the skincare but I never see nearly enough love for the real star of the show – Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow. It is a fusion of primer and illuminator that will leave you wondering how you ever survived without it for so long. Really how did you manage?

Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow Review

We all know the drill in regards to primer: you apply it underneath foundation and/or general make-up to intensify and prolong, and if you are lucky it will boast a few skincare benefits too. To find something that brightens, hydrates, prolongs, perfects and has a handful of anti-ageing ingredients to boot (BioNymph Peptide Complex to stimulates collagen), is all but unheard of, and yet that is exactly what Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow offers and more.

For every product that I can visually display it’s sheer brilliance – magic if you will – there’s the odd launch or two that no photograph or paragraph can document with justice and Wonderglow is one of those. To the naked eye, Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow is a fairly loose, liquid illuminator that is a neutral gold in tone – heck you might even be put off on that alone as not everyone likes an all over glow but I can promise you it is worth the risk. The light reflecting pearls present in Wonderglow – even when applied under make-up as a primer – create a soft, lit-from-within glow that is youthful, forgiving (even on fine lines and enlarged pores) and brightening. For a moment let’s forget the additional benefits and focus on that glow, one quick application of this liquid gold primer, quickly and effectively disguises any signs of tired, sallow and dull skin. You can also apply it as a stand alone liquid highlighter, or mix into any other liquid face product, such as foundation to add additional radiance, or to create a dewy finish.

Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow Review

How ever you decide to use it, I’m sure you will come to agree that Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow is a non-greasy, lighter-than-air brightening choice. What is slightly odd about this product is that it contains soft focus, ceramic microspheres to smooth over the skin’s imperfections and blur as it goes. I’ve never experienced anything like it – a radiance boosting product that also helps to visually soften the appearance of my pores. One word – magical.

Promise me that this will be the next Charlotte Tilbury product you in the very least swatch in store?

Sunday Tittle Tattle: Back to the Old School

model recommends sunday posts

1) Sorry, I was a bit slow off the mark with this week’s Sunday Tittle Tattle and so those who subscribe by email will be reading this on Monday morning. Also, I’ve decided to go Old School and return to the previous way of titling these posts; it’s easier to pick them out when they’re marked Sunday Tittle Tattle which is important as they are – strangely! – one of the most consistently popular posts. If you’d like to browse through the back catalogue and see if you’ve missed any, you can find them all archived here.

2) I have set Mr AMR the monumental beauty task of working his way through all of these little Tom Daxon fragrances and reporting back on his findings. I was going to do it myself, but they are just a little too much on the masculine side for me.

Apart from Crushing Bloom, I suppose, but even that isn’t feminine enough for my prettified pregnancy sense of smell! I’m not sure what the point of this perfume testing is, really, but when you have no phone reception and slow internet and have finished all of the available Game of Thrones episodes, one has to make one’s own entertainment. We also spend quite a lot of time looking at bathroom supplies catalogues and “popping out” to do unnecessary tasks. You can find Tom Daxon’s Sampling Set online here, if you fancy a try yourself.

3) This week’s photo of “Mr Bear on Holiday”: Mr Bear hiding in the laundry. Thank you Mother, keep them coming! (I’m actually going to go and visit Mr Bear in a week or so, I can’t wait!) Did you know that my Mum has a blog? I tell you this to put some pressure on her to write more posts – if you find yourself reading through, please all of you leave comments telling her to write more posts! She’ll be very perplexed but it will make me laugh.. My Mum Says…

Katie Maloney’s Fall Flush

There are few things we enjoy more than getting the scoop on which Benefit products our fave bloggers & celebs are currently obsessing over! Especially when the seasons are changing & everyone has a new beauty routine. This time around, we caught up with Vanderpump Rules‘ star Katie Maloney (she’s got a super-cute new makeup blog Pucker & Pout) to talk about her fall favorites.

_KatieMalone_Square

To create her flawless face, Katie layers hello flawless! powder over the POREfessional primer. POREfessional gives a smooth, shine-free canvas that Katie says can even be used on its own, or with hello flawless! dusted on top for lightweight formula & a natural look with a bit extra coverage.

We love rocking a flushed “just in from the cold” look this time of the year without actually having to GO out in the cold, and Katie recommends majorette booster blush to amp up the color. We know our Benebabes like to stay cheeky, and majorette is the ultimate tool to keep the flush going all day long. It can be worn alone or under your favorite box o’ powder—either way, the cream-to-powder formula and perfect peachy-pink shade is a win for every skin tone.

Benetint is another one of Katie’s fall-flush secret weapons. Just like us, she loves having rosy lips, but often finds herself putting on a fab lip color first thing in the morning, and then neglecting it for the rest of the day. Benetint adds a subtle splash of just-bitten color that lasts all day, so you don’t have to worry about reapplication.

Last, but certainly not least, Katie is a fan of Benefit’s they’re real! mascara & they’re real! push-up gel liner. Her go-to eye look uses the they’re real! duo to create a simple, winged accent line on the outer corner, and super fluffed-up lashes to open her eyes.

We’re totally loving Katie’s benefaves, and so psyched to see that she uses some of the same Benefit classics that we do! We’ll feel just a little bit cooler swirling on our majorette tomorrow, knowing that she’s doing the same thing! What do you think about Katie’s picks?

Katie Maloney appears on Bravo TV’s Vanderpump Rules! in addition to blogging for her beauty site, Pucker & Pout.

Zelens Skincare: Intense Defence Antioxidant Serum

best serum review

I look forward to any new launch from Dr Marko Lens’ brand Zelens, but when it’s two very potent and impressive serums, I really sit up and take notice. Dr Marko is a world-leading authority on skin cancer and regularly contributes to some of the most cutting-edge research when it comes to skincare. His own Zelens skincare line offers powerful, advanced formulas that are subjected to the most lengthy and thorough clinical trials – this is impeccably-researched skincare at its best.

I always tend to go off on some kind of love-fest when I talk about Dr Marko so I’ll cut to the chase and get straight to the serums! Intense Defence Antioxidant Serum and Z Luminous Brightening Serum both have active ingredient lists that each take up the best part of an A4 page. Two columns, not one. Little writing. But it was the Antioxidant serum that most caught my interest, mainly because I don’t currently have any dark spots and my skin is quite even in tone, so the Brightening version wasn’t something I felt I needed. (Though, thinking about it, I did use the Olay Luminous Serum for much of my pregnancy and I’ve mentioned before, tentatively, how perhaps that has kept my skin in check…)

So the antioxidant serum: helps to protect against free radicals that attack the skin. Think stress, alcohol, smoking, air pollutants. I’m not going to delve too deeply into the science, here, because last time it gave me a right headache. If you want to read my shockingly bad pub/antioxidant analogy then do read this: Shockingly Bad Pub/Antioxidant Analogy or if you want, my more sensible post on antioxidants. The Zelens science goes further than this, at any rate, identifying the three different types of free radical attack and formulating a product that will address all of these types, rather than just the one that is tackled by a typical antioxidant product. The result is a serum that provides protection from environmental aggressors and that helps to repair existing damage which, in turn, reduces the appearance of fine lines and helps with skin firmness and elasticity.

At which point, in my head, I’m usually going “yeah, yeah, yeah” in a sarcastic manner, but as usual Zelens have the clinical results to back things up. In fact the results of this particular trial have been published in the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology, so you can look them up yourself if you so wish – search Assessment of the kinetics of the antioxidative capacity of topical antioxidants. The highlights of the trials showed that the Zelens Intense Defence Antioxidant Serum provided strong antioxidant protection, reducing UV-induced oxidation of the skin surface lipids by 74% after one hour. After five hours, 50%. Incredibly impressive.

As well as some familiar ingredients – Vitamin E and stable Vitamin C, Squalene, Hyaluronic Acid, Coenzyme Q10 and Green Tea – the formula is packed full of potent actives that address inflammation and strengthen the skin’s barrier as well as providing antioxidant protection. Superoxide Dismutase, Alpha-Lipoic Acid, Pycnogenol (me neither!) and TriPeptide-1 to boost collagen, and sesame protein to provide an instant tightening effect. The actual visible results of this serum would be, you would think, slow to make themselves apparent. A bit like protecting against long-term sun damage – it’s not until much later that you reap the rewards of having adequately protected your skin. But actually the visible results were quite prompt: glowing, less-dull skin that felt smooth and calm and altogether tip-top. And I don’t know whether this was purely coincidence, but I sat outside a few times in the sun without SPF (shock horror – I was waiting for the dog to become de-constipated and basically spent a lot more time in the direct sunlight than I had anticipated! A half hour catching up on Instagram feels like a mere thirty seconds once you get absorbed in it…) and I didn’t get the remote bit of redness or freckly occurrences. I wonder, I wonder…must ask about whether these antioxidants can boost the skin’s defences against the sun, a bit like a natural SPF? (*UPDATE: I did ask! Dr Marko’s answer: “many strong antioxidants act as natural SPF and in fact without adding any sunscreens filters they provide some degree of SPF. They also boost SPF of sunscreen formulations.”)

You’ve probably guessed that this serum doesn’t come cheap (but if you’ve used Zelens before you’ll know that this is high-end, hi-tech stuff) – it’s priced at £125. Oil-free, suitable for all skin types, use it after cleansing and before your moisturiser. (Add an SPF if you’re waiting for your dog to de-constipate / sitting outside wasting time on Twitter.) You can find Zelens Intense Defence Antioxidant Serum online here.
