– Sponsored Content – Sustainability has rightly become an important factor in many everyday choices, from avoiding single use plastics, products and in general excessive packaging, which is what first drew my attention to the brand ThisIsSilk.

Very recently I have switched out cotton pads for machine washable products and haven’t touched a face wipe in what feels like years. Understandably this process took time and there was research involved in deciding, not only what was best for the environment but also my skin type – I have an acne prone complexion meaning anything that is being regularly used has to be able to be properly washed and not every material allows for that, nor regular use for that matter. After much trial and error, I do have a wonderful recommendation in ThisIsSilk, Silk Cleansing Cloths.

Yes at £24.99 for a pack of three, the ThisIsSilk, Silk Cleansing Cloths are slightly more expensive than standard face cloths but this is for good reason; each cloth is constructed from 100% un-dyed silk and as such features all the added benefits of Silk amino acids. To the touch, ThisIsSilk, Silk Cleansing Cloths don’t feel out of the ordinary but due to the unique weave of the Silk, it gently exfoliates, conditions and smooths the complexion in one quick step. This is all without switching what skincare products you currently use nor any real added effort on your part. Rather interestingly Silk has been clinically proven to reduce the appearance of fine lines and speed up the rate of cellular regeneration when used in such manner. If that is not enough to tempt you to switch to ThisIsSilk, Silk Cleansing Cloths the fact that they are also entirely biodegradable could be the factor that sways you?

As mentioned above, you simply use the ThisIsSilk, Silk Cleansing Cloths as you would any other facial cloth of this nature. For me this typically involves pairing with a balm cleanser; I simply apply my cleanser as normal, dampen my ThisIsSilk, Silk Cleansing Cloth and remove by gently wiping and buffing off the now emulsified cleanser. After a few uses I have noticed that my skin is softer to the touch and despite being into the colder months, I have yet to suffer from a dried out and dull complexion which I have to put this down to switching to ThisIsSilk, Silk Cleansing Cloths as I have changed absolutely nothing else. Perhaps a weird claim but I also find that when using my ThisIsSilk, Silk Cleansing Cloth in the morning, any pillow creases in my face are so much quicker to plump back out?

Sure the ThisIsSilk, Silk Cleansing Cloths are expensive but as they are something you can use over and over again, not to mention all the additional benefits that a traditional cloth cannot offer and of course they are kind to the planet.

Five Of The Best Face Masks I Rely On To Really Deliver: Soothe, Hydrate, Plump, Boost & Clear

L’Occitane Art de Vivre Candles

L'Occitane Art de Vivre Candles

Did you know that L’Occitane have a beautiful and permanent line of candles which make up the Art de Vivre collection? No? Me neither up until very recently and of course being the candle fiend that I am, ordered one of each scent to try out – for the sake of research of course, not because I have a serious problem or anything like that.

 L'Occitane Art de Vivre Candles

In the grand scheme of things, does it really matter how a candle looks? It’s like perfume bottles, as long as the juice inside smells great, I can’t say I pay it too much mind – what I’m really saying here is that I don’t buy candles to match my decor. However I do think that L’Occitane have done a great job in delivering their Art de Vivre candles in a way that they are fairly muted and neutral in design. As such they should appeal to most – not to mention they make great gifts.

Within the L’Occitane Art de Vivre collection there is four scents to chose from all of which is available across a whole range of products to scent your home and body. The idea of the Art de Vivre range does seem to be that it has been created to engulf the senses with indulgent scents, all of which have been infused with essential oils, to evoke the Provençal spirit of ‘art de vivre’.

I rather like that each fragrance has a purpose, almost akin to the benefits of aromatherapy rather than simply being dubbed a citrus, floral, what-have-you type of scent. The four fragrances within the Art de Vivre collection are:
Harmony – the scent to bring the outdoors directly into your home, said to have been created to mimic the sensory delight of taking a walk a pine forest, surrounded by the green freshness of trees. It is safe to say that this is a fresh and almost menthol type scent with strong notes of cypress, thyme, eucalyptus, juniper and ylang-ylang essential oils, to bring a feeling of harmony.
Relaxing – a gentle and sleepy blend of Lavender, sweet orange, bergamot, mandarin and geranium. If like myself you aren’t the hugest fan of Lavender fragrances this is one to seek out as you have all the relaxing benefits of said ingredient and yet thanks to the additional and somewhat fruity notes, the Lavender isn’t overpowering. A great candle to curl up with at night.

Revitalising – So you need a little pep in your step? The Revitalising Candle has been created to offer a zesty yet fresh scent using an invigorating blend of mint, pine, rosemary, sweet orange and litsea cubeba. This is the only scent out of the four that has a warm, almost sunny fragrance that does refresh and invigorate, I find myself using it whilst working at home to keep me motivated and on track.

Uplifting – Winter is long and often grey, what could be better than an uplifting and fresh fragrance of immortelle, basil, cypress, eucalyptus and litsea cubeba to pretend that you are in a sunnier destination than home.

As there are lots of candle brands within the market at the moment, finding a suitable comparison and reference point wasn’t too difficult, I’d imagine if you like Neom fragrances, this is a range you will also enjoy.
You can find all four L’Occitane Art de Vivre candles for £20/140g each here – link.

Throwback Thursday – MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle

MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle

Like many, if not most, I have a beauty wish list that I slowly work my way through, treating myself here and there to products I really want but don’t necessarily need. Topping this list for a few years has been MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle, the ultimate throwback highlighter that had previously escaped me up until now. There was a time in which no beauty influencer was without this glistening, champagne gold highlighter and after close to ten years, I’m ready to join the ranks…better late than never.

If you are a long term reader you will recall my MAC obsessive days in which I bought just about every collection they dropped for several years, so it may come as a somewhat surprise that I have not actually tried a few of their cult products including MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle. My reasoning in this instance is that it is a, a fairly odd shade not quite peach, not quite gold and b, in the pan my gosh is it glittery, couple that with enlarged pores and it can be problematic. So what changed my mind?

MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle

Honestly? A trip to the Grenta Gateway Outlet Village and a stop in the The Cosmetic Company Store in which I found the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle highly discounted, the offer was too much to pass up on and so I went home with my own shiny pan, determined that I’d make it work for me one way or another. The truth is there really is no graft involved, once buffed into the skin, the glitter quickly disperses and smooths out into a metallic sheen-come-glow that all but explains why this is a must-have item for so many.

MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle

Now I have said many, rather than all for a very good reason as in my opinion this is a very middle ground shade and by that I mean if you have a extremely light or deep complexion then this might not be perfectly suited. In my opinion the issue with MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle is that it leans fairly peach and warm, as such it gleams a little orange on paler skin tones and a little stark on those with a deeper complexion. Admittedly this may not be an issue but something worth noting, especially if you don’t have the time nor patience to really work this into the skin – otherwise MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle is close to universally flattering and is something that I would nudge you to at least swatch the next time you are near a counter.

As mentioned above, this is one of those wonderful powder products that needs next to no coaxing in order to look beautiful on the skin. Typically I apply any powder highlighter with a fan brush but as MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle is so pigmented, I have found myself gravitating towards tapered blush/powder brushes for a more diffused appearance. The good news is that it does out with ease so even if you are a little heavy handed it is not something that can’t be quickly remedied – on the flip side you can amp up the finish for a more foiled look by dampening your brush or skin prior to application.

I realise that I have accidentally published this post on a Tuesday rather than a Thursday, seeing as it has took me several years to finally purchase this highlighter let alone review it, being early for once isn’t necessarily a bad thing?
