Be Enchanted

Hello Makeup Geeks! I have another tutorial in our Bath and Body Works series for you today. (Check out the first edition here) I love doing these series for you because I get inspired to be really creative with all the colors. I found the “Be Enchanted” collection and loved the packaging on this. I really like the blue, purple with the splash of silver glitter accenting the colors as well. These shades combined make for a stunning look that I am excited to share with you.

Also, if you are one of my YouTube subscribers, leave a comment saying you would like to win and why and we will pick a person to win the bath gel, lotion and body spray that is the inspiration behind this look. I will announce the winner on Facebook and Twitter.

Now, enough blabbing, let’s get started on this enchanting look!

How to Wear: Electric Eyeliner

ruth crilly wearing ysl bleu lumiere

This electric pale blue eyeliner is completely out of my comfort zone but I really, really like it. I was only playing about when I tried it on the lower waterline but then I looked in the mirror* and wham! Love it first sight! I think that it’s really fresh and brightening – perhaps because it’s such an icy, almost neon, blue – and as far as “statement” makeup goes, it’s very wearable indeed. I especially like it against summery bronzed skin and chalky, pale lips.

The liner is one of YSL’s amazing Dessin du Regard waterproof eyeliners. I find them to be so soft to apply and easy to smudge, but once they’re set they just don’t budge. And they don’t set like plastic, either, like some waterproof eyeliners do; there’s no “tightness” to the finish. Just comfortable and lovely with vibrant colours that look great both in the waterline and smudged into the base of the lashes. This electric pale blue shade is called Bleu Lumiere and you can find it on FeelUnique.com here – it’s £19.50. It’s part of the summer collection, so don’t hang about for too long if you want one – they also have it at Selfridges.com, though not with the free delivery.

What do you think? I might have to have a play with some other crazy eyeliner colours now – I’ve seen a few around. Though I’m not sure how flattering bright pink or bright yellow would be… Let me know if you’ve seen any you’d like me to test-run – and for those people who will very firmly stick to black or brown, thank you very much, I have some reviews coming up that might well interest you.

*Blatantly when I looked in the mirror I didn’t see the streak of cream blusher down my left cheek or the fact that my tinted moisturiser had started to go patchy, but hey ho. You can’t see it all. Especially when you don’t have your glasses on!

My Bronzed Holiday Makeup with Hot Red Lips

Evening Bronzed Holiday Look with Hot Red Lips

I’m supposed to be on a self-imposed work ban on this holiday (I’m in Greece), but the other afternoon it started to pour down with rain and Mr AMR was watching old cowboy films on the television and so I decided to kill some time and make a quick beauty video. There’s only so much Kindle-reading a girl can do! (I’ve polished off three huge books now – for my full reading list see yesterday’s post.) I chose to film an evening makeup look with red hot lips (NARS Heatwave) and a little bit of a smouldering eye.

Evening Bronzed Holiday Look with Hot Red Lips

I started the look with just bare, moisturised skin – no foundation, but I had been prepping with the Clarins Radiance-Plus tanner (here) to give myself a gorgeous bronzed glow. Then, just a touch of concealer (Dior BB) and a dusting of Guerlain bronzer before I went in for the main event…

Can I just say right this minute that Illamasqua’s Vintage Metallix cream eyeshadow from the new collection is amazing? You can see in the video that I apply it in one fell swoop with my eye brush and it looks brilliant and perfect with very little effort. It doesn’t budge once it has set and the metallic finish is stunning. You can find the shadow at Selfridges here. £16.50, which I don’t think is too steep at all for such a brilliant little makeup morsel.

And then the lips, lined in a red KIKO lipliner and filled in with dangerously bright Heatwave from NARS, which is a great colour to slick on when you feel a bit bronzed and sexy. You can see the whole step-by-step in the video below – all of the product links are at the bottom of the page. Enjoy – I’m going back to my glass of Rosé!

l'occitane free moisturiser

L’Occitane are running a nice campaign at the moment; visit the My Beauty Story website and answer three quick questions about you and your skin and you’ll be recommended one of four lovely moisturisers to try for free.

I’m a total sucker for miniature beauty and the little jars that the free moisturisers come in are just gorgeous! 8ml, too, so you can get a good idea of whether the cream suits you or not. Once you’ve had your moisturiser recommendation you can pick it up from your nearest L’Occitane store. And once you’ve finished the mini-jar, you can get £10 off the full-size version, or any skincare purchase over £25! Here’s the site: L’Occitane
