Everything You Need To Know About Facial Rollers

Everything You Need To Know About Facial Rollers

If you follow a lot of skincare experts on social media, I imagine you’ll have seen a lot of different facial rollers being used as part of their skincare routine. Facial rollers have become very popular in the last two years, and they’ve become a lot more mainstream. You used to have to purchase them from specialist skincare retailers, but you can pick them up in pretty much any drugstore now.

Everything You Need To Know About Facial Rollers

They were originally all made with jade, but many of the cheaper rollers are made to look like they’re jade or quartz, but they’re a cheaper stone designed to give you the same rolling benefits, but with a more affordable price. You can purchase genuine jade rollers, but they are expensive. Brands like Revolution have jade rollers, and their version is £15, and they also have Gua Sha massage tools for the skin too.

So what is a facial roller?

Facial rollers are typically a dual ended skincare tool, with a larger facial roller on one end, and a smaller roller on the opposite end. They’re usually made from stone, which feels very cooling against the skin. Some rollers that use artificial stone won’t have the same cooling effect on the skin, but you can keep your roller in the fridge should you want a more intense cooling effect on the skin.

On a facial roller, the stones on either end can be rotated when pressed against the skin like a mini rolling pin. By rolling the facial roller against the face and neck, it helps to massage the skin, just like when you use massaging devices on the body. Believe it or not, jade facial rollers have been used to massage the skin since the 17th century in China. They’ve been around for a very long time, but thanks to social media, they’ve become a lot more mainstream, and many beauty lovers are introducing facial rolling as part of their skincare routine.

What are the benefits of using facial rollers?

Facial rollers offer many benefits to the skin. They’re known to help remove toxins from the skin, help smooth fine lines, calm any inflammation you may be experiencing, help decrease dark circles and under-eye bags around the eyes, help heal the skin, relieve tension headaches and a lot more.

Did you know that facial massage can help improve your mood? It can also help to drain fluid from the face, and direct excess fluid to the lymph nodes. This is particularly helpful if you find your face and skin looking a little puffy. By stimulating lymphatic drainage, it helps the toxins be flushed and detoxed from the skin, and jade rollers are said to ward off negative energy, so there’s many fantastic benefits of using  a facial roller within your skincare routine.

It can also help with the absorption of your skincare products, and I personally like to use my roller after applying my serum as the viscosity of the serum, really helps the face roller to glide over the skin with less tension. However, you can use a facial roller on dry skin, and at any step within your skincare routine.

How do you use a facial roller?

  1. Always use your facial roller in an upward motion, and in one direction. Never use the roller to go backwards and forwards like you would with a paint roller.
  2. Repeat the upwards rolling motion up to five times in each area of the face, starting with your jawline and finishing on your forehead.
  3. You can use the roller all over the face, including the neck, jaw, cheeks, hairline, brow bones, nose and forehead.
  4. It’s important to be gentle, but firm, and it’s recommended to use facial rolling 2-3 times a week, or whenever your skin is in need of a boost.

You only need to spend a couple of minutes with your facial roller, to experience the benefits and I love how calming and soothing rollers feel. If you feel anxious or stressed, a couple of minutes of rolling will really help ease some tension. I also like using my roller whenever I have a headache, as it feels really therapeutic. There are lots of benefits of using a facial roller, and you don’t have to spend a fortune either.
