The Iconic Lipliner Becomes a Lipstick

Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Pillowtalk

Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in Pillowtalk needs to introduction, it is the nude go-to lip liner for myself and many others for two very good reasons: the shade – the most wonderfully, flattering, lip plumping nude-come-blush pink, coupled with a silky, soft and easy to apply formulation. Now as wonderful as Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in Pillowtalk is, due to the pencil format, constant application and of course all but daily sharpening of the pencil, it is not the most economical lip purchase – not that this is an expectation from a luxury brand. If like myself your Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in Pillowtalk habit has somewhat become a situation of finical crisis, then the arrival of Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Pillow Talk will be something of a revelation.

What can I say about the Charlotte Tilbury copper, intricate and very much art deco inspired, lipsticks and compacts that hasn’t been uttered before? Truthfully not much but I do think it is worth noting that aesthetics aside, the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipsticks – regardless of what shade you choose – have been constructed for ease of use. From the weighted tube, to the chiselled lipstick bullet – everything is for convenience and precision, elements that you don’t see all that often within the world of lipstick and the hidden little extras, that enhance the overall application experience.

If you have yet to try the staple pink toned nude that is Charlotte Tilbury Pillowtalk, the applied shade will depend on the natural hue of your lips – there is a slight blue undertone which can optically brighten the teeth, but can also result in Pillowtalk leanings lightly mauve toned on certain complexions; best described it is a mid blue toned, pink based nude that in my opinion is universally flattering. A few have asked if Pillowtalk is in any way similar to Secret Salma and the answer is no: one is far more blue toned and deeper than the other which you can hopefully decipher from the above photos.

For those familiar with Pillowtalk and perhaps on their third or forth pencil, I can vouch that there is absolutely no differentiation nor discrepancies in terms of colour or tone, between the two forms of the now iconic lip shade – the main difference is the finish and comfort levels. Typically – and I do say typically as how you wear any beauty product is up to you – lip liners are not aimed at overall lip application and as such can be both a little firmer and drier, which can result in a less than enjoyable experience. With the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Pillowtalk, you have the same, pretty, everyday nude shade you have come to know and love, coupled with a by far more nourishing and dare I say slightly more matte finish.

Urban Decay 24/7 Velvet Glide On Eye Pencil

24/7 Velvet

Personally, all other Urban Decay newness is obliterated when it comes to these new Velvet 24/7 liner shades. I love eye-liners – even if I’m wearing almost no other make-up, I find it hard not to do a dark line above my lashes.

24/7 Velvet

There isn’t one shade here that I wouldn’t wear, and the thing with Velvets is that they’re perfect for smudging into smokey lines – although it’s a bit odd that they don’t come with a smudger, given that. Velvets are matte so they’re pretty dramatic as one solid line and with no sheen or frost they are actually quite different to most liners.

24/7 Velvet

Shades, from bottom to top: Plushie, Lush, Cult, Lure and Minx. Navy liner (Minx) looks amazing on brown eyes. Anyway, these all launch on 4th August for £15.

Anna Sui Rose Cheek Colour

Anna Sui Blush

Anna Sui Blush

If you’re looking for something really different, then the just launched Anna Sui Rose Cheek Colour hits the spot. There are two variants, and I have the cool toned blush here – it’s not often that stand-outs cater to cool tones so it’s something quite special.

Anna Sui Rose Cheek Colour

It’s just a joy inside! There is a slight shimmer to it and it’s more of an iridescent wash – and no, you don’t end up with blue cheeks! Obviously, you can pick out individual shades or swirl for a whole effect (I’d be putting this on my eyes for a wash of shimmer, to0). The packaging is crazy – super-chunky but with delicate detail. The blush formula is interesting because it’s a moist powder so you won’t get any dry feeling from it and just to throw one more thing into the ring – the blush is rose scented!

Anna Sui Star Lipstick

Anna Sui Star Lipstick

I’ve featured the star tipped lipstick before – it’s not quite on-line yet at ASOS who has the Anna Sui exclusive in the UK, but they’re a bit of a miracle of lipstick engineering and will go live any day now.

Cool, hey? And the star runs all the way down the shaft of the lipstick but obviously won’t stay precision perfect once you’re using it. Eventually, it will look like any other lipstick. The blush is £27 HERE, and I’ve just noticed that ASOS have some of the Anna Sui Nail Colours on sale for £7.50 HERE from £12. Did someone say stocking filler?

What I’m Wearing: Silky Shirt-Dress and Candy Stripe Shoes

michael kors navy silk dress

This silk shirt dress from Michael Kors is definitely going to be one of my staple wardrobe pieces this summer. It looks really smart and well-structured but it’s so light and cool! The perfect dress for days when you need to make an effort but it’s absolutely sweltering outside. Most of the dresses that I throw on when it’s hot tend to be cotton and tent-like, so I think it’s good to have at least one presentable option!

I’ve accessorised it with these cool candy-stripe ribbon wedges from UGG and a white leather clutch from Michael Kors. A nod to the nautical theme, I suppose, with all of that navy and white and red and stripes, but the dress has definitely got a touch of something else going on as well. Safari chic? A bit of military? Gold buttons, rolled-up sleeves… The leather belt comes with the dress; it has to be done up and looped casually around itself in a very specific way. There’s even a little instruction card included to make sure you don’t style it the wrong way! God forbid.

Everything shown (apart from the sunnies) is from online fashion store Zalando*. The Michael Kors Dolman dress is on sale at the moment, £215 instead of £250 (here); the UGG striped wedges are £120 (here) and the Michael Kors Daria Clutch is £125 (here). The Daria comes in a few different colours, I also really love the hot pink one and the coral. I think that each of the pieces that make up the outfit will work really well with other things – the dress looks great with flat sandals as well as heels and the UGG wedges look brilliant with shorts. I just think that the shoes are very cheery and fun – you can’t really be in a bad mood and stomp about when you’re wearing red stripy wedges, it wouldn’t be right!

ruth crilly outfit post

Zalando asked me to choose and style this summer outfit from their online store. I hadn’t been on Zalando before, but I was (pleasantly) surprised to see that they have a huge range of brands at different price points – everything from high street to very high end. It’s like having The Outnet and ASOS/ on the same page, sort of. So you can search “black shoes”, for example, and hundreds of pairs will come up – the cheapest at £12 and the most expensive at over £800! I quite like this way of shopping; if you’re searching for a whole outfit you can decide which part of it you want to splash the cash on or where you would rather save your pennies. You can also get a £10 voucher if you sign up to the newsletters- I didn’t realise this until after I’d placed my order, but if you want to get the voucher in advance then it’s here.

You can browse the store here: Zalando.co.uk

Take a look at more fashion posts here – I’m going to be putting together a summer lookbook (Spring one seemed to be a success) so you’ll be seeing these bits and pieces from Zalando again! PS: I have no foundation on in these pictures. Gorgeous bronzed skin is courtesy of the new Elemis face tanner I’ve been testing out! Review tomorrow.

*Zalando have kindly sponsored this post.
