Cult Beauty Goody Bag!

cult beauty goody bag

For those of you who were keen to find out about the Cult Beauty goody bag: here are the contents. My eye was particularly drawn to the 50ml bottle of Alpha-H Liquid Gold and the 10ml Start Over eye cream from Sunday Riley, worth around £17 and £22 respectively. There’s also a beautiful, beautiful little candle from NEOM (see here) that’s scented with rose, lime and black pepper – it’s a really unusual fragrance but so calming and comforting. You can see other bits and bobs above – 100g of the amazing Therapie Himalayan bath salts, REN’s Glycolactic mask, the Anastasia Brow Primer, a Studio 10 Liquid Lips and lots of lovely skincare things to try. I love the mini Jade Roller – I still haven’t tried these face rollers, I must work out what you’re actually supposed to do with them!

So if you are doing a Christmas Beauty Spree then now is the time – though if you miss out on this goody bag, there are some good discounts running for “Black Friday”. I’ll try and do a roundup post of the best places to shop online this weekend, because I’ve seen some great offers circulating! Cult Beauty stock some incredible brands, both luxury and the more affordable, so have a browse. On my wishlist: the Returning Starfish cream (look at that tin!) and the Rose & Pepper candle from Cire Trudon.

The Cult Beauty goody bag is free with orders over £100 and is worth about £175. You can find more details and look up the individual items on Cult Beauty here – sorry to those reading this via email, bags are limited in number and by the time you read this they may be gone. You can check here!

Sophia Webster Riko Mules : Accessory Friday

Riko Mules

Riko Mules

Okay, so I forgot Accessory Wednesday so I’ve temporarily moved to Accessory Friday! This isn’t my usual kind of AW post because the Sophia Webster Riko Mules are off-the-scale expensive, but you know when you see something and think, YES! I’m absolutely sure we’ll see high street versions of this come out for spring, but for now, it’s just a bit of a shoe-lust moment.

Riko NAP

Riko NAP

There’s a different variant (above) on Net-A-Porter. I think we’re going to see these absolutely everywhere!

Okay, now for the bad news. The top pair at Selfridges are £505, and the bottom pair at Net-A-Porter are £495. I don’t know how to make them seem like a bargain because they’re absolutely not..the Sophia Webster Riko Mules are pure luxury (and fantasty, for me, anyway!). If you have won the lottery recently, the Selfridges pair are HERE and the NAP variants are HERE.

Bib Collar

On the more affordable front, one of my good friends gave me this collar for Christmas – it’s genius! Actually, not maybe for winter when you want all the shirt and all the sweater you can get to beat the cold, but personally, I don’t like really crisp cotton shirts. They’re always untucking for a start, the sleeves are all a bit too long, they feel bulky and they’re generally not that comfortable to wear. But I do like the collar bit. And this is exactly that.. just the collar bit so it looks really good without any of the usual shirt niggles. Once you get used to wearing it, it just feels completely normal. I like the denim version, which I have, so much that I’m buying the white version too. That way, come spring and summer I can wear my sweatshirts and lighter jumpers without boiling as well. The collar is a snip at £10 HERE.

Darphin 8-Flower Nectar Oil Cream: Fragrant Face Treat

face cream review

I wanted to give this sumptuous, buttery face moisturiser a bit more of a try before writing a full review, but I’ve noticed that it has a third off at Escentual.com at the moment and – as it’s not exactly cheap – thought that I’d give it an early shout-out.

The 8-Flower Nectar Oil Cream from Darphin is a gorgeous little pot of winter skin wonderment; if you’ve got thin-feeling, dry and flaky skin then it’s just a delight. Though you have to like essential oils because this definitely isn’t shy on the florals! It’s almost like applying perfume to your face. In the nicest possible way…

Rich doesn’t even begin to cover this cream – it has, as the name of it suggests, all of the benefits of an oil, but in a cream formula. Which would be better described as a butter really, because it’s very firm-textured and not one of those flimsy, whipped affairs. Not the kind of cream that you’d scoop out a blob of, more a balm or salve that you apply sparingly, bit by bit. Of course you could scoop out a big wodge of it, melt between palms, press onto skin, etc etc, but (as mentioned) this isn’t cheap – I prefer to have a bit more control and just massage it in where I need it.

More products for dry skin…

After a massive run of using completely unfragranced face products, I am actually rather enjoying the strong scent of the essential oils in the 8-Flower Nectar Oil Creamit feels spa-ish and decadent. I find myself holding my palms over my face for a while after applying and breathing deeply – it’s very summery and uplifting. Rose, lavender, neroli, iris and jasmine, which I would normally find far too overpowering and full-on, but I think that it’s all tempered down by the deeper patchouli, which is the note that my nose seems to single out as the dominant one. (The other flowers in the “8” are ylang ylang and immortelle.)

More moisturiser reviews…

And the effects of the Oil Cream? Long-lasting relief from that tight skin dryness that winter seems to always bring, a beautiful juiciness without the residue you might get from a straightforward oil. Great underneath foundation – it has just the right amount of dew and bounce – and if I use it last thing before bed, I wake up with a face that is still very nicely hydrated.

If you want to slather a thick cream on all over with gay abandon then this, perhaps, is not the one for you; if you fancy a bit of a special (fragrant) face treat that deserves a press and a massage when it comes to application then you’ll love it. I hate to use this particular phrase, but it’s sort of for the person who likes their skincare rituals. Takes their time.

It’s usually £65 but at the moment Escentual.com have 1/3 off French skincare brands so it’s £43.33 here. If it’s showing as out of stock you can still order at the reduced price and it will ship when it’s restocked, which at last check is about 7-10 days.

Mother’s Day Perfume: Mini Reviews

si, chloe love story, dolce rosa, chanel touche de parfum

Some utterly delectable perfumes, if you’re stuck for a mother’s day present this year. The card in the background, by the way, is from Thortful – you can get 50% off your first card order using the code WEB50. Or so it says on my computer when I go to their site – let me know if it doesn’t work!

And what about the perfumes? There are full reviews coming up on some of these, but here’s a quick run-down to help you decide on the perfect scent for your mother-dearest. (My Mum’s overall favourite is Coco Mademoiselle, but she has a whole massive shelf of perfumes and wears something different all the time. I’ve never known anyone swap their perfumes around as much as her – mind you, she does about fifty clothes changes a day, so I don’t know why I’m surprised.)

Chloe Love Story Eau de Toilette

Chloe’s new Love Story Eau de Toilette is slightly fresher and less heavy on the orange blossom than the original Love Story: this is a good choice for someone who likes their fragrances light and feminine. The vintage style bottle would look great on a proper dressing table or in a boudoir strewn with discarded dresses and Vogue magazines… from £35.70.

armani si review

Armani Si is a beautifully elegant eau de parfum; a peachy, clean rose at first but with warmer, woodsier notes coming in as the fragrance settles into the skin. I think that this one is very sophisticated – I love the strong blackcurrant note, it’s unusual and not at all sweet or obviously fruity.

chanel touche de parfum review

Everyone (I think?) knows Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle; but have they seen the new Touche de Parfum? A cute, lipgloss-style applicator in a suede carrying pouch. At £65 for 6ml it’s a real treat, but I can imagine that collectors and die-hard Mademoiselle fans will fall instantly in love. Those who want a little more for their money might consider the amazing purse spray – same sort of vibe, but with a twist-up spritz and three 20ml refills.

dolce rosa review

Dolce & Gabbana’s Dolce Rosa Excelsa has an aquatic kind of edge that I find really appealing. I always think that it’s a rather masculine note, but perhaps that’s because every single boy when I was a teen wore Davidoff’s Cool Water! This is fresh, juicy and smells very summery and uplifting – a hint of rose, but very much scattered through the other notes rather than dominating. You can find Dolce Rosa Excelsa

Celebrities who have hair like my Dog: Part 8

celebrity dogs

Thank you, dearest readers, for this week’s Celebrity who has hair like my Dog. This one was a great suggestion and there were so many pictures to choose from on Google Images. I have to ask though, and I am absolutely not intending to be offensive or facetious, because I love a bit of Dolly; is the person in the photograph below actually real, or is it a Madame Tussaud style model?

celebrities with hair like my dog

Everything is just so…smooth! Either way, Dolly Parton most definitely has hair like my dog. Could do with being a bit more gingery at the ends, but I’ll forgive her. FYI: I once went to Bestival dressed as Dolly Parton (or porno-cowgirl, you decide). You can see that picture here – prepare yourself.
