Oil Meets its Matte!

We’ve been on the mission for smoother-than-smooth skin with POREfessional for years now, and every time we think our skin can’t get any more #flawless, the makeup wizards at Beauty Central prove us wrong.

We recently became acquainted with POREfessional: license to blot, and it’s safe to say that we’re already besties. We LOVE the primer’s velvety-smooth finish & shine-resistant power, but we are one seriously sparkly Benebabe—we’ve got what we like to call the two o’clock curse. We look perfectly gorg all day long, and then we wander past a mirror around 2pm & BAM! Shinin’ bright like a diamond! Pretty sure this isn’t what Rihanna meant. :/

Thankfully, our new bestie comes in the form of a six hour oil-blotting stick. One quick application over our makeup, and we can rest assured that we’ll be shine-free for the rest of the day! The best way to apply is in short, quick strokes all over oil hot spots—forehead, nose, chin & wherever else you find a little shine sneaking in. The triangle tip is easy to fit in hard to reach places, like the corners of your nose, and it’s super easy to clean—just wipe off on a tissue like you would with a concealer stick. One of the best things about license to blot? It’s anhydrous, meaning doesn’t have the capacity to grow bacteria!

From the first time we used POREfessional pro-balm & experienced the sensation of our skin transforming into velvet right underneath our fingertips, we were totes hooked on PORE. Whether we’re wearing it alone or underneath our foundation, POREfessional primer is the cornerstone of our makeup routine. Then came agent zero shine, the purse-friendly anti-shine powder with a built-in brush, which totally changed the game again. Now with license to blot on our shine-fighting team, we never have to worry about shine sneaking its way onto our skin again! Oil has met its matte! 😉

Jo Malone Autumn 2017

Jo Malone English Oak & Redcurrant Cologne Review

As a lover of Autumn, I need little persuasion to try a new and warming fragrance that encapsulates and celebrates the richest season of all. Answering my call for a warming yet refined, ready-to-wear scent is one of the two new Jo Malone colognes – Jo Malone English Oak & Redcurrant.

Jo Malone English Oak & Redcurrant Cologne Review

I’m a city girl but come September my head is filled with the thoughts and aromas of leaves crunching under foot, ripe berries and generally the rich, delectable foods of harvest. As much as I enjoy burning Pumpkin tinged scented products (and who doesn’t), it’s not a fragrance I’m overly keen to mist onto my person, and yet there is certainly an Autumn shaped gap in my fragrance collection. Up until now I relied upon two other iconic Jo Malone colognes: Pomegranate Noir and Blackberry & Bay – both are delectable but a little too fruit based for my current needs.

Then came along Jo Malone English Oak & Redcurrant…

Jo Malone English Oak & Redcurrant Cologne Review

Yes it’s bold, full bodied and has a red, almost tangy note but it is unlike anything else on the Jo Malone repertoire. It’s soft, cosy and crisp like the first day of November thanks to the unforgettable notes of roasted oak and rose, then of course there is the sweet uplifting note of juicy redcurrant, that injects both a warm and playful whimsy twist into the scent. Jo Malone English Oak & Redcurrant cologne begs to be worn with a large cable knit, cream sweater and your favourite scarf, whilst you go scavenging for chestnuts…or wait for the bus, whatever is more realistic.

Autumn has been bottled and boy does it smell great.

Jo Malone English Oak & Redcurrant Cologne £88/£44 – link.

Full Moon Double Wing

Mercury is finally out of retrograde and a full moon is upon us tonight. After all the ups & downs of our horoscopes (& feelings) this past month, we’re ready to start the new cycle of the moon with a fresh beauty step. We’ll be channeling our inner winged-out goddess tonight using our they’re real! push-up liner. This daring look is all about attracting [the right kind of] attention, and its matte-black formula gives this look an instant artistry touch. We bet you can fool everyone into thinking you’re a makeup artist!

Dare to Go Double?

 1. Draw a thin, even line along the lower lash line, angling the tip up & out at the outer corner of your eye.

2. Draw a thick line along the upper lash line

3. Wing it out at the exact same angle as the lower lash line.

Cheaper Kindles and the Books To Load Them Up With.

summer reading recommendations

I know people roll their eyes a bit at the Kindle deals that basically epitomise “Black Friday”, but my Kindle is one of my most-used gadgets ever and, if there’s an opportunity to get one at a knock-down price then I’m there. My Mum still has what is basically a prototype Kindle, it weighs about ten kilos and hurts her wrists when she holds it for long periods of time. (I think it’s mostly because of the case with the light in it.)

So, I am getting one of these for her Christmas present – I feel it would be rude not to, really – at £34.99 it’s less than the price of a bottle of perfume, for goodness’ sake! This is the new Amazon Fire Tablet and I’m honestly struggling to work out why it’s so much cheaper than the Kindle Paperwhite. It has a bigger screen, it still loads e-books, but you can do so much more with it, including accessing the internet… I can imagine my Mum sat upstairs browsing Boden in bed!

More Christmas Present ideas…

So yes – getting one of these for Mother. If you’re after a tablet or book reader then this has to be one of the best value versions on the market. I’ve done a quick Google, but nothing seems to come close. Incidentally, the Paperwhite is also on offer – £79.99 instead of £109.99 here. If anyone does know why the Paperwhite would be better then please let me know pronto, before I hit the button. Is it better for your eyes to read on the Kindle? The battery life on the Kindle is better, but I love the idea that you can browse the internet on the Fire!

None of these are short or easy reads, they’re really something to get your teeth into but I could read them again and again. I do hope you enjoy them – I must do a “favourite books” post or video soon… Feel free to add your own suggestions in the comments box for other readers.
